Baseball Team Splits With Sul Ross State

Alpine, Texas-The Eagles exploded for five runs in the first inning to fuel a 12-7 game two win over Sul Ross State University Saturday in American Southwest Conference action.

In game one, the Eagles (10-26, 4-17 ASC) got a two-run homer and plated another run in the first inning, but were unable to hold the lead as Sul Ross (14-23, 7-14 ASC) stormed back to claim a 12-4 win.

In game two, the Eagles recorded four hits, highlighted by a pair of triples, to move in front 5-0 in the top of the first. Justin Crider led off the inning with a walk, and Patrick Clifford immediately followed with a triple. Chase Edwards then knocked in Clifford with a single to left field. Andrew Beck had a single, and Josh Woolly cleaned the bases with another triple. The Eagles' final run came when Bryce Elder had a sacrifice bunt for an RBI. Leading 6-2, the Eagles added three runs in the top of the third. Crider had an RBI single and Clifford singled through the left side of the infield to score two. Sul Ross trimmed the deficit to 9-6 after eight complete innings, but Ozarks powered home three runs in the top of the ninth. Edwards ripped a solo home run, giving him six on the season. Fielder Dufrene doubled in a run and Zach Jones recorded a sacrifice fly to score another.
    
The Eagles pounded out 18 hits. Crider, Clifford and Edwards all had three hits. Clifford drove in three runs and Crider scored three times. Jack Waggoner (3-5) received the win after tossing three innings.

In game one, Crider opened the game with a single and with one out, Edwards smashed a home run to put the Eagles in front 2-0. Jones later followed with a fielder's choice RBI to make it 3-0. Ozarks owned the lead until the third when Sul Ross plated three runs on a three-run homer. The Lobos then tacked on a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Leading 7-3, the Lobos put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth.

Ozarks totaled four hits, while Sul Ross recorded 14. Gyeongju Kim (1-3) was charged with the loss as the starter.

Ozarks will host LeTourneau University April 28-29 for Senior Day.
