GAME ONE
Overview:
The offense pounded out 16 hits and Breyden Varner drove in seven runs to help the Eagles overcome a seven-run third inning from Westminster College and secure a wild 15-11 win in game one of Sunday's double-header. Varner started the scoring fest in the bottom of the first when he sent a three-run homer over the center field wall. Westminster had a big third inning recording six hits and scoring seven runs to hold a 8-4 advantage. The Eagles were far from done though as the offense provided two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 8-6. Westminster got both runs back in the fourth, but the Eagles produced two runs on Rocky Liveoak's two-run double in the bottom half of the frame. Trailing 11-8, the Eagles had another big inning to take the lead for good. This time, in the bottom of the fifth, Rey Lozano doubled in a pair of runs and Varner smashed his second homer of the game to drive in three more. Dakota Ebarb then sliced a double to center field to push across the sixth run of the inning. Varner had more to do as he doubled to center field to record his seventh RBI of the game in the sixth. From there, closer Corey Steward threw a hitless seventh inning to end the game.
