THE BASICS
In a battle of two ranked opponents, Hardin-Simmons fought off several Ozarks' second half scoring opportunities to survive with a 1-0 win Thursday night. Hardin-Simmons posted a goal in the fifth minute on a laser from 25 yards out and went into halftime with the lead. With the wind at their back in the second half, the Eagles fired off double-digit shots, including numerous shots on goal. Hardin-Simmons played most of the second half a man down due to a red card. Drew Mott had a chance with a one-on-one opportunity in the 52nd minute, but goalkeeper Trent Ivy came up with a big save. In the 80th minute, Harry Hilton nearly tied the match, but his shot went wide. The Eagles continued to mount pressure on the Cowboy defense with a relentless attack, but Hardin-Simmons kept the Eagles out of the net. In the end, the Eagles outshot the Cowboys 19-8 and had eight corner kicks. The Eagles are ranked #10 in the West Region, while the Cowboys are #15 in the nation.
