Eagles Tennis Team Wins Third Conference Match

Jackson, Miss.-The Eagles won their third match in the last four tries while posting their third conference win with a 5-4 victory over Belhaven University Saturday.

At No. 1 doubles, Melle Van Duijn and Spencer Turner had a 8-5 win. At the No. 2 spot, Cole Lankford and Reid Birch posted a 8-1 win. In singles play, Van Duijn won 7-6, 6-1 at the No. 1 position. Turner topped his opponent 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 position. The Eagles also picked up a win at the No. 6 spot with Bryant Cason winning 6-3, 7-5.

"We are playing well heading into the conference tournament," said head coach Jeff Kutac. "After taking a 2-1 lead in doubles, we have been continuing to improve and it is really starting to show. We had several great efforts and results today, but it came down to a pair of freshman to clinch the match for the team."

The Eagles will now await their seeding for the ASC playoffs.
