Men’s Tennis Team Falls In Quarterfinals Of ASC Championship Tournament

Richardson, Texas-The men's tennis came up short 5-0 against Hardin-Simmons University in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament despite several close matches Thursday.

The Eagles finish 8-11 overall in Jeff Kutac's first season as head coach.

Hardin-Simmons (7-12) fought off all three doubles' efforts from the Eagles to lead 3-0 heading into singles. The Eagles were defeated 8-2 at the No. 3 position. The Eagles were then narrowly defeated 8-6 at the No. 2 spot. Reid Birch and Cole Lankford played No. 2. The Eagles lost at No. 1 doubles, but it could have went either way. Jordan Davis and Holt Fields took down Spencer Turner and Melle Van Duijn 9-7 in a match that had to be moved to an indoor facility due to rain.

In singles, Griffin Weinkam took a 6-2, 6-0 win over Spencer Turner at the No. 2 position. It was another tough loss at No. 3 singles with Fields edging Cole Lankford 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to clinch the match.
