Louisiana College Softball Team Notches Friday Sweep

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team rallied late in game one but came up short 3-2 and then fell 11-1 against Louisiana College Friday in American Southwest Conference play.

Ozarks (2-3, 2-3 ASC) fought back from a 3-0 deficit late in the game behind a Katie Ventress home run. Prior to the two-run homer, the Eagles committed a costly error in the sixth inning to allow two runs to score. The two teams battled to a 1-0 game after five innings with the Wildcats (6-2, 3-1 ASC) on top. The sixth saw both teams score twice, with Ventress blasting her second homer of the season. Laken Gray recorded a single in the bottom of the sixth, and Kaitlyn David followed with a fielder's choice as Gray was out at second base. Ventress then posted her timely home run to make it 3-2. Ozarks nearly overcame an outstanding pitching performance from Louisiana College starter Savannah Settle. Settle struck out 13 batters to post her second win of the season. Ozarks' starter Hannah Oler went toe-to-toe with Settle, allowing only five hits. Oler was equally impressive keeping the Wildcats off rhythm offensively.

Ventress went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game.

In game two, the Wildcats took advantage of two early errors to move in front 3-1 after the first inning. Ventress produced an RBI on a single that scored Brooke Hoffsommer in the first. The Wildcats generated three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth to move in front 8-1.

Ventress (1-1) took the loss. Ozarks collected three hits in the contest.
