Late Defensive Plays Secure Win For Women’s Basketball Team

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks women's basketball team got a key block in the fourth quarter on a fast-break layup and then forced Bacone College into a tough shot with just seconds remaining to secure a 59-57 win over the Warriors Friday night.

Leading 59-57, Ozarks (2-1) committed a turnover with less than 20 seconds remaining in the game and Bacone (1-4) appeared to be headed for an easy layup, but Bailey Womack came from behind and blocked the shot to keep the lead. Ozarks' defense then forced a desperation three-pointer with four seconds left in the game to earn the win.

Bacone led 21-15 after the first quarter, but Ozarks battled back to take a 31-28 halftime lead behind a 16-point second quarter. The Eagles shot an impressive 60 percent from the field in the first half, while holding Bacone to a 25 percent shooting clip. Ozarks also hit 12-of-14 from the free throw line in the first half.

Ozarks outrebounded Bacone 43-33 in the game and held Bacone to a 26 percent shooting clip.

Diamond Goodwyn and Delanei Stephens posted double-doubles in the game. Goodwyn had 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Stephens had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Rose Robinson had 13 points.

Ozarks will travel to Hendrix College November 22.
