  • Eagles Fall In Quarterfinal Of ASC Tournament

    Benton, Texas-Hardin-Simmons University started the game off shooting 84 percent from the field in the first quarter and never looked back earning a 67-49 win over the Eagles in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament Thursday. The Cowgirls missed just two shots in the first quarter and held a 28-16 advantage after ten minutes of play. The Cowgirls cooled off in the second quarter, but still held a 39-23 halftime lead. At the half, Delanei Stephens scored ten points for the Eagles. In the third quarter, the Eagles made just three field goals and trailed 55-32 heading into the final quarter. The Eagles did improve their shooting percentage in the fourth quarter, hitting 41 percent from the floor. The Eagles ended the quarter outscoring Hardin-Simmons 17-12. Hailey Ostrander started the scoring in the fourth with a three-pointer. Ostrander drilled another three-pointer and Delanei Stephens hit a shot to cut it to 59-42 with 5:43 left. Another three-pointer by Kamryn McKinney made the score 61-45. The Eagles continued to fight and McKinney made another shot to bring the score to 61-47, but that would be as close as the Eagles could get. Stephens led the team with 12 points. In the end, Hardin-Simmons shot 48 percent from the floor, while the Eagles hit 30 percent.
  • Belhaven Women Pull Off Upset

    Clarksville, Ark.-On a day where neither team was able to find much success shooting the ball, the visiting Belhaven Univerrsity Blazers hit just enough shots to secure a 68-63 win over the Eagles. Despite the loss, the Eagles have qualified for the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament under first-year head coach Kourtni Williams.  The Eagles are the No. 3 seed out of the East Division and will play Hardin-Simmons University in Belton, Texas, February 21. The Eagles had a strong showing in the first quarter and even pulled out to a 17-10 lead. The Blazers returned the favor with a strong showing of their own in the second quarter, that was good enough to pull ahead, 30-29 at the half. The emotion of Senior Day took over, and seniors Hailey Ostrander, Savannah Kate Smith, and Diamond Goodwyn combined to account for 20 points at the break. Belhaven guards Aaliyaha Thornton and Brittany Ford sparked a late, third quarter charge, which gave the visitors a ten-point advantage heading into the final frame. Smith and Ostrander led a valiant comeback for the Eagles, but the lead proved to be too much to overcome, as the home squad fell by five points. Aaliyaha Thornton and Brittany Ford paced Belahaven with 16 points a piece. Smith paved the way for Ozarks with 22 points and four rebounds. 
  • Williams Guides Women's Basketball Team To Playoffs In First Season

    Clarksville, Ark.-Under first-year head coach Kourtni Williams, the University of the Ozarks women's basketball team has qualified for the American Southwest Championship Tournament and will face Hardin-Simmons University February 21 at 12:00 p.m. in Belton, Texas, in the quarterfinals.
  • Eagles Secure No. 3 Seed In Playoffs With Win
    February 14, 2019
    Clarksville, Ark.-Under first-year head coach Kourtni Williams, the Eagles have qualified for the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament. With a 83-72 win over Louisiana College, the Eagles have secured the No. 3 seed out of the East Division. Louisiana College did make things interesting by hanging around late in the second half, cutting it to 74-72 with two minutes left, but the Eagles didn't let the Wildcats score again. The Eagles held a 40-32 halftime advantage, but the Wildcats grabbed the lead back in the third quarter. Eventually, the Eagles went into the fourth quarter with a 60-56 advantage. After Louisiana College pulled within two points late in the final quarter, the Eagles clamped down on defense for the win. Throughout the game Hailey Ostrander seemed to hit big shots and finished with 22 points. Delanei Stephens followed with 16 points and missed just two shots from the field. Savannah Kate Smith had 14 points, while Kelsey Dixson scored 10 points and had eight rebounds.
  • No. 19 Texas Dallas Claims Win Over Women's Basketball Team

    Richardson, Texas-No. 19 Texas Dallas held the Eagles scoreless from the three-point line in the game and limited them to four points in the second quarter en route to a 55-34 win Thursday. Texas Dallas led just 11-9 after the first quarter, but exploded for 20 points in the second quarter to take over the game. Neither team shot well in the contest. Texas Dallas hit 29 percent from the field and the Eagles made 25 percent. The Eagles went 0-for-16 from long-range, while Texas Dallas hit 3-of-18. Delanei Stephens paced the Eagles with 11 points.
  • Eagles Score Second Win Over LeTourneau

    Longview, Texas-The Eagles produced another outstanding defensive effort holding LeTourneau to shoot 25 percent from the field in a 54-40 win Saturday in conference play. The Eagles also defeated LeTourneau last month in Clarksville. he Eagles limited LeTourneau to six points in the first quarter and held a 28-15 lead at intermission. Hailey Ostrander hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points in the win. The Eagles hit 86 percent from the free throw line.
  • Eagles Fall On The Road Against Nationally-Ranked ETBU

    Marshall, Texas-The nationally-ranked East Texas Baptist University Tigers (No. 15) cruised past the Eagles 80-56 Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action. The Tigers had a strong first and fourth quarter to earn the win. The Tigers held a 28-15 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles played within striking distance in the second quarter, but never took the lead. The Eagles fought back and pulled within 49-37 in the third quarter on a Savannah Kate Smith shot, but the Tigers outscored the Eagles 26-16 in the final quarter. Diamond Goodwyn led the Eagles with 13 points. The Eagles hit just two shots from the three-point line, while East Texas Baptist made ten. 
  • No. 15 East Texas Baptist Too Much For Eagles

    Clarksville, Ark.-The nationally-ranked East Texas Baptist University Tigers presented too much size and depth for the Eagles as the visitors manufactured a 69-56 win Saturday in American Southwest Conference action. The Eagles scored first and held the lead for the first four minutes of the game only to have East Texas Baptist hold a 26-14 first quarter advantage. From there, the Tigers went into the locker room with a 44-26 lead. The Eagles made a run in the fourth quarter to climb within 64-56 with 3:26 left, but wouldn't score again. The Eagles committed 24 turnovers in the game. Delanei Stephens led the team with 16 points. 
  • Women's Basketball Team Cruises Past LeTourneau

    Clarksville, Ark.-Led by a stifling defense, the Eagles cruised past LeTourneau University 56-37 Thursday night to reach seven conference wins on the season. The Eagles held LeTourneau to four points in the second quarter as well as limiting the visitors to 22 percent shooting from the field in the game. The Eagles led 34-16 at halftime and extended their lead to 40-18 with about four minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles' defense never really let LeTourneau back into the contest in the second half. Kamryn McKinney paced the Eagles with 17 points. She also grabbed five rebounds. 
  • Eagles Edge UT-Tyler In Exciting Finish

    Clarksville, Ark.-Looking to bounce back from a 89-42 drumming at the hands of UT-Dallas on Saturday, the Eagles hosted a tough UT-Tyler squad. Ozarks jumped out to a 18-16 lead after the first frame, and enjoyed a 39-32 advantage at the half. The edge could be, in large part, attributed to the Eagles success from beyond the arc and UT-Tyler's lack thereof. The Patriots misfired on all six of their attempts from three in the first half, while Ozarks managed to connect of eight of their fifteen tries. A hard fought second half and strong bench scoring, allowed the Patriots to get back in the game and even lead in the final minute. However, a crucial layup with less than 40 seconds to play by senior guard Savannah Kate Smith allowed the Eagles to take the lead for good. Solid late game management helped Ozarks finish the game off and secure the win, 75-72.
  • Comets Cruise Past Eagles

    Clarksville, ark.-The Eagles had trouble keeping up with the hard-nose defense and quick-striking offense of Texas Dallas as the Comets cruised to a 89-42 American Southwest Conference win Saturday. The Comets limited the Eagles to 13 first half points, while scoring 44 of their own. For the game, the Comets hit 53 percent from the field and held the Eagles to 26 percent. Delanei Stephens had 13 points to lead the Eagles.
  • Women's Basketball Team Handles Dallas Christian
    January 15, 2019
    Dallas, Texas-The Eagles put up a strong second quarter defensive effort to take control of the game en route to an easy 82-52 win over Dallas Christian University Tuesday night in Texas. The Eagles led 22-17 after the first quarter, but turned up the defense in the second quarter and allowed just five points. The Eagles held Dallas Christian to a pair of field goals during that stretch. The Eagles would score 19 points in the quarter to end the half with a 41-22 lead. The Eagles made 9-of-18 from the three-point line. Delanei Stephens score 17 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor. Stephens also hit 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Hailey Ostrander had 18 points and three three-pointers.
  • Women's Basketball Team Off To Best Start Since 2005-06

    Pineville, La.-The Eagles took a big 66-57 road win against Louisiana College Saturday behind balanced scoring and a hot shooting performance from the free throw line. The Eagles had four players reach double figures in scoring in the contest. Hailey Ostrander led the way with 21 points. She hit five three-pointers. Savannah Kate Smith hit two from long-range and scored 14 points, while Delanei Stephens and Kerigan Bradshaw added 11 and ten points, respectively. Stephens finished with a double (11 points, 13 rebounds). The Eagles held a 26-20 lead at halftime, but needed to outscore the Wildcats 26-20 in the fourth quarter. The Eagles shot 21-of-24 (87%) from the free throw line.
  • Belhaven Hits Shot With .7 Seconds To Sink Eagles
    January 10, 2019
    Jackson, Miss.-The Eagles lost a heart-breaker 61-59 on a jump shot in the final seconds against Belhaven Thursday night in Mississippi. Savannah Kate Smith drilled a three-pointer with 21 seconds left to cut the deficit to 58-57. Belhaven then hit one of two free throws with 20 seconds left to give the Eagles another offensive possession. Belhaven fouled Hailey Ostrander, who sank both free throws to tie it 59-59. On Belhaven's next possession, the Blazers isolated Aaliyaha Thornton in a one-on-one situation. Thornton came through as she hit the game-winner with just .7 seconds remaining. The Eagles did get the last shot on an inbounds play, but were unable to convert. Delanei Stephens led the Eagles with 17 points.

  • Eagles Hit All 22 Free Throw Attempts, Stephens Records Double-Double

    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles were extraordinary from the free throw line hitting a perfect 22-of-22 and Delanei Stephens posted a double-double in a 66-59 win over Sul Ross State University Saturday in American Southwest Conference play. The Eagles have won five of their last six games. Stephens poured in 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Stephens also pulled down 14 rebounds. The Eagles led 35-25 at the half, but Sul Ross made a push in the third quarter hitting 56 percent from the field and outscoring the Eagles 22-13. At the start of the fourth quarter, the Eagles led just 48-47, but Sul Ross never took the lead. The Eagles held a big 50-33 rebound advantage in the game. Hailey Ostrander added ten points in the win.
  • Weatherford's Layup Pushes Eagles Past Howard Payne In Thriller
    January 03, 2019
    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles pulled out a thrilling 62-60 win over Howard Payne University behind a Hannah Weatherford layup with five seconds remaining Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play. The Eagles now move to 4-1 in the conference. With the score tied 60-60 with 12 seconds left in the game, Savannah Kate Smith dribbled past halfcourt and made an outstanding move past a pair of defenders to find a wide open Weatherford heading to the basket. Weatherford delivered the shot and then the Eagles made a defensive stop to secure the game. Defensively, the Eagles kept Howard Payne scoreless in the final 2:31 of the game. The team statistics were similar as the Eagles shot 44 percent from the field. Howard Payne hit 43 percent. The Eagles made 36 percent from the three-point line, while Howard Payne hit 33 percent. And at the free throw line, the Eagles hit 60 percent, while Howard Payne hit 62 percent. Hailey Ostrander hit two three-pointers during the final six minutes and Weatherford made a three and the game-winning bucket. Ostrander finished with 17 points behind four three-pointers. Weatherford made three from long-distance and had 13 points in the game.
  • Eagles Net Big Road Win In Overtime

    Austin, Texas-The Eagles used a 12-0 run to start overtime fueled by a pair of three-pointers from Hailey Ostrander to pull out a 76-67 win over conference opponent Concordia University Texas Monday afternoon. The fourth quarter proved to be back-and-forth as each team held the lead multiple times. Eventually, the Eagles went ahead 63-59 behind back-to-back baskets from Delanei Stephens, with the final shot coming at the 1:23 mark. However, Concordia fought back and tied the game on four free throws down the stretch. The last two shots came with ten seconds left in regulation. But the Eagles owned overtime as Ostrander started with a three-pointer and the Eagles never trailed again. The Eagles held a 33-27 halftime lead and then held a narrow 45-43 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Ostrander finished with 19 points on 4-of-9 shooting from long-range. Delanei Stephens posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Women's Basketball Team Falls To Undefeated Mary Hardin-Baylor

    Belton, Texas-The nationally-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders remained undefeated as it handed the Eagles their first conference loss of the season with a 82-57 win. The Crusaders raced out to a 22-11 first quarter lead and never let the Eagles back into the game. The Crusaders held a 42-26 halftime lead. The Eagles hit 35 percent from the field in the game, while Mary Hardin-Baylor made 39 percent. The Crusaders owned a 51-24 rebound advantage. Delanei Stephens led the team with 13 points.

  • Women's Basketball Team Nets Second Conference Win

    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles won their second American Southwest Conference game in as many tries with an 80-72 win over Hardin-Simmons University Wednesday night. The Eagles needed a second half comeback as they trailed by 15 points late in the third quarter. But within the first minute of the fourth quarter, the Eagles only faced a 55-51 deficit. Hardin-Simmons then built a 62-54 advantage with only 6:19 remaining. But the Eagles hit back-to-back three-pointers and the momentum changed. Hailey Ostrander and Hannah Weatherford did the damage for the Eagles from long-range to make it 62-60. Kamryn McKinney later hit a three to tie it, but Hardin-Simmons went ahead 68-65 with 3:02 left. Another Weatherford three followed by a Savannah Kate Smith three gave the Eagles a 71-70 lead at the two-minute mark. Smith then converted a three point play and the Eagles never trailed again. Ostrander had 25 points. Smith had another strong all-around game scoring 14 points, dishing out six assists and recording five steals.
