Women's Basketball Team Nets Second Conference Win

The Eagles won their second American Southwest Conference game in as many games with an 80-72 win over Hardin-Simmons University Wednesday night.

THE BASICS
The Eagles won their second American Southwest Conference game in as many tries with an 80-72 win over Hardin-Simmons University Wednesday night. The Eagles needed a second half comeback as they trailed by 15 points late in the third quarter. But within the first minute of the fourth quarter, the Eagles only faced a 55-51 deficit. Hardin-Simmons then built a 62-54 advantage with only 6:19 remaining. But the Eagles hit back-to-back three-pointers and the momentum changed. Hailey Ostrander and Hannah Weatherford did the damage for the Eagles from long-range to make it 62-60. Kamryn McKinney later hit a three to tie it, but Hardin-Simmons went ahead 68-65 with 3:02 left.  Another Weatherford three followed by a Savannah Kate Smith three gave the Eagles a 71-70 lead at the two-minute mark. Smith then converted a three point play and the Eagles never trailed again. Ostrander had 25 points. Smith had another strong all-around game scoring 14 points, dishing out six assists and recording five steals.

KEY STATISTICS
The Eagles overcame a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to secure the win. The Eagles outscored the Cowgirls 30-17 in the fourth quarter behind five three-pointers.

NOTABLES
Senior guard Hailey Ostrander scored 25 points for the second time this season. It was her fourth 20-point plus game of the season.
Savannah Kate Smith had another strong all-around game scoring 14 points, dishing out six assists and recording five steals.
