Clay Target Team Finishes Third In The Country At National Championships

Shelby Skaggs helped the Eagles finish third at the National Championships.

San Antonio, Texas-The University of the Ozarks clay target team had its highest finish ever at the ACUI Collegiate Clay Target National Championships placing third at the weeklong event in San Antonio. 

The Eagles finished third in the Division 2 competition with a score of 2354. Fort Hays State University won the Division 2 competition with a score of 2462, while Martin Methodist College placed second with 2452. The Eagles improved to a top-3 finish from sixth overall last season under head coach Caleb Hemphill.

In the team standings, the Eagles placed third in American Skeet, fourth in American Trap, third in International Skeet, fourth in International Trap, fifth in Super Sporting and sixth in Sporting Clays.

In American Skeet, Zane Arnold was the team's top performer hitting 97. Arnold was also the top performer in American Trap with 95. In International Skeet, Clayton Villines was the team's best with 81. Arnold led the team with 90 in International Trap. In Super Sporting Clays, Villines was the top performer on the team with 95. Arnold had the team's top score in Sporting Clays with 83.

Shelby Skaggs had several top-10 performances at the event. Skaggs had the team's top scores in American Skeet (99), American Trap (96), International Skeet (85), International Trap (87), Super Sporting (84), and Sporting Clays (82).

In Class A American Skeet, Charles Priddy led the team with 97. In Class B American Skeet, Taylor Holland had 90 for the best on the team. In Class A American Trap, Jacob West had 95 to lead the Eagles. In Class B American Trap, Shon Hastings had 95 to post the team's top score. Wagner won the Class A International Skeet competition with a score of 91. In Class B International Skeet, Summer Sanders was the team's top finisher with 77. In Class A International Trap, Jacob Tucker finished second with 94 to pace the Eagles. In Class B International Trap, Taylor Holland was the team's top finisher with 83. In Class A Super Sporting, Tristian Leonard posted a 87 for the best score on the team. In Class B Super Sporting, Shon Hastings had 84 to lead the Eagles. In Class A Sporting Clays, Charles Priddy had 83 for the top score on the team. In Class B Sporting Clays, Shon Hastings had 66 to lead the Eagles.

In the ISO Trap men's competition, Jacob Tucker finished fifth in the country. In the women's ISO Trap, Shelby Skaggs was eighth in the country. In the women's ISO Skeet, Summer Sanders was eleventh in the country.

In the men's HOA, Zane Arnold led the team with a 78thplace finish with 530. In the women's HOA, Shelby Skaggs finished third overall with 533.

The 2019 ACUI Collegiate Clay Target National Championships consisted of four divisions. Schreiner University won the Division One national title, Emmanuel College won the Division Three national title and Connors State College won the Division Four national title.
