Arlington, Texas-The University of the Ozarks wrestling team competed in a busy weekend including a dual with Richland College on Friday evening, and the Southwest Open on the campus of UT-Arlington on Saturday.
The Eagles were victorious by a score of 44-3 over Richland College.
The Eagles had several highlights in the win, including a technical fall at 174lbs by Jesus Perez (Fr.) over Claudio Rios by a score of 18-3, a pinfall at 184lbs by Joey Schenck (Fr.) over Matt Gonzalez, a pinfall at 197lbs by Alejandro Ordonez (Fr.) over Ladarius Bennett, a pinfall by Jameer Anderson (Fr.) at 285lbs over Armani Broussard, and a pinfall at 125lbs by Si Hnamnhouane (So.) over Greg Weasah.
Additional results included a decision victory by Nick McDaniel (Fr.) at 157lbs over JP Robles, a decision victory by Ny'Trell Dean (So.) at 149lbs over Carlos Hernandez, a decision victory by Corey Muniz (RFr.) at 133lbs over Mike Basalt, an injury default victory by Mario Vasquez (Fr.) at 141lbs over Pedro Garcia, and a tight 2-3 loss by Jacob Sherrill (Jr.) at 165lbs to Dustin Basham.
On Saturday at the University of Texas at Arlington Southwest Open, Ozarks competed against wrestlers from fifteen colleges (NCAA, NAIA, and NCWA) from across Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
Led by three champions, including nine place winners in the top four of their respective weight classes were, Devon Jackson (Jr.) , Champion at 125lbs; Sergio Nugent (Fr.), Champion at 133lbs with a 6-3 decision over NAIA's 8th-ranked Dustin Miller; Mario Vasquez, Champion at 141lbs; Corey Muniz, third-place at 125lbs; Si Hnamnhouane, fourth-place at 125lbs; Joey Schenck, fourth-place at 174lbs; Alejandro Ordonez, third-place at 184lbs; Zack Wintz (Fr.), third-place at 235lbs; and Marshall Billiter (Fr.), second-place at 235lbs.
Ozarks will host Bacone College November 30.
