Garcia ‘21 Named Assistant Tennis Coach 

Clarksville, Ark.- Former University of the Ozarks tennis player Angelica Garcia has been hired as the assistant women?s and men?s tennis coach, head coach Ryan Spencer announced this week.     

Clarksville, Ark.- Former University of the Ozarks tennis player Angelica Garcia has been hired as the assistant women's and men's tennis coach, head coach Ryan Spencer announced this week.     
     
Garcia played at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spot for the Eagles from 2019-2021. She played the No. 1 doubles position her entire career for the Eagles. Garcia helped the Eagles to the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament in 2021. She was named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete Team and ASC All-Academic Team during her time at Ozarks. She was recently named the ASC Sportsmanship Women's Tennis Athlete of the Year. 
     
"We are very excited to have Angelica join the coaching staff," said Spencer. "It was obvious she was ready for this role by her leadership as a senior. She will have a great impact both on and off the court for the Ozarks' tennis family."
     
Garcia's coaching experience includes instructing at the Amarillo National Tennis Center, Alex O'Brien Tennis Foundation and Amarillo Independent School District. 
     
"I'm honored and humbled to become the University of the Ozarks new assistant tennis coach," said Garcia. "I am excited to be back with my Ozarks' family. It's pretty amazing to be able to change one uniform in for another. I would like to thank Coach Ryan Spencer, Jimmy Clark, Amy Lloyd, Karen Schluterman and President Dunsworth for this amazing opportunity. I can't wait to take on my new role."

Garcia started her collegiate tennis career at nationally-ranked Cowley College in Kansas where she made the national quarterfinals in doubles. She served as team captain at Ozarks and Cowley. She will be a summer graduate with a bachelor's degree in sociology. A native of Amarillo, Texas, she prepped at Caprock High School in Texas.
