U of O Announces $6.2 Million Softball And Baseball Complex
Clarksville, Ark. -- University of the Ozarks has announced a $6.2 million project to construct new softball and baseball stadiums on its campus. The two facilities are targeted for completion in early 2024, in time for regular season play. They represent the second phase of a concerted effort by the University to upgrade all its varsity and intramural athletics facilities.

Eagles Softball Ends Season Against LeTourneau
Longview, Texas- LeTourneau University completed a three-game sweep against the Eagles with a 9-2 win on Saturday. LeTourneau scored three runs in the first inning, but the Eagles countered with two runs in the top of the second. Allie Shero doubled in a run and the Eagles took advantage of an error to score another. From there, the Eagles wouldn’t score again while LeTourneau provided a steady offense to finish with nine runs.

Longview, Texas-In a game that saw just five combined hits, LeTourneau University out a 3-0 win over the Eagles in game one on Friday. LeTourneau scored a run in the first, second and third innings. In two of those innings, LeTourneau would score with two outs. The Eagles recorded one hit in the game, which came in the seventh inning.

Eagles Lead Early, Fall To Tigers In Game Three
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles started strong in the first inning scoring three runs, but No. 10 East Texas Baptist University rallied for a 8-3 win in game three. The Eagles collected four hits in the first frame. Mack Lucio started the offense with a single. Allison Cowart later followed with another single. Hayley Rivett then ripped a single to right field that the right fielder misplayed and Rivett ended up at third base to allow both runs to score. Allie Shero hit a single through the left side of the infield to score Rivett and the Eagles led 3-0. The Tigers got one run back in the second. The Tigers blasted a two-run homer in the third to even the score and then scratched across another run to lead 4-3. The Tigers added an insurance run in the fifth for a 5-3 lead. The Tigers’ offense was steady in the latter part of the game to secure the contest. The Eagles got runners on board in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t push them across.

Clarksville, Ark.-No. 10 East Texas Baptist University scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 13-0 win in game one. The Tigers later added four runs in the third frame to take a commanding 11-0 lead. The Eagles had four hits, all coming from different players.

Belton, Texas-Mary Hardin-Baylor completed a three-game sweep of the Eagles with a 8-0 win on Saturday. The Crusaders took control of the game early plating six runs in the first frame. The Eagles got runners on board in the first, second and third innings only to strand them.

Belton, Texas-Mary Hardin-Baylor starting pitcher Grason Long threw a five inning no-hitter to lead the Crusaders to a 9-0 win over the Eagles in game one Friday. Long did not issue a walk and fanned eight in her outing. She didn’t allow a base runner until the fifth inning, which came on an error.

Howard Payne Takes Game Three
Clarksville, Ark.- Howard Payne University took game three of the series 8-0 on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the first inning and the score remained 1-0 until the fourth when the Yellow Jackets added six more runs. In the third, the Eagles had two runners in scoring position with one out but couldn’t scratch across a run. In the fourth, the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs, but Howard Payne escaped without allowing any runs. The Eagles went hitless in six tries with runners in scoring position. The Eagles three seniors – Allie Shero, Kaylyn Soria and Sarah Todd – were honored prior to the game.

Lucio's Inside The Park Homer Ignites Eagles
Clarksville, Ark.-Mack Lucio’s inside the park home run ignited the Eagles late in the game to push past the Yellow Jackets 6-3. Gracie Jones’ sacrifice squeeze in the first pushed Rayli Ruby across the plate. Ruby reached base on a double. Starting pitcher Morgan Haupt stranded runners in the second to keep it at 2-1. The Eagles tied the game 2-2 in the fourth with a Hayley Rivett RBI double. Howard Payne moved ahead in the fifth 3-2. But Lucio ignited the Eagles dugout with a home run. Lucio drilled one to the corner of right field to go around all the bases. Rivett pushed across the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the same inning. With two outs and two runners on, Allie Shero ripped a double down the left field line to score two more and the Eagles led 6-3. In the seventh, Haupt worked a double play to end the game. Lucio and Rivett each had two hits.

Central Baptist College Takes DH From Eagles
Clarksville, Ark.-Central Baptist College opened up a close game late to pick up a 12-3 win over the Eagles in game one. In the third, Mack Lucio singled in Rayli Ruby. In the fourth, the Eagles had back-to-back singles for Allie Shero, who worked a full count and then got a sacrifice fly to score one run and give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. But Central Baptist evened the score in the fifth with an RBI double and then took the lead for good with an RBI single. Central Baptist added two more runs to make it 6-3 in the fifth. The Mustangs added an insurance run in the sixth and five more in the seventh to put the game away. Ruby and Allison Cowart each had two hits.

Concordia Softball Completes ASC Sweep Against Eagles
Austin, Texas-Concordia University Texas built a 6-1 lead after two innings en route to a 12-4 win over the Eagles in game three on Friday in Texas. The Tornados scored three in the first and then matched that output in the following inning while the Eagles scored one during that span. The Eagles plated two in the fourth on RBI doubles from Aryonnah Briggs and Allie Shero. The Tornados answered with three runs in the fifth to move ahead 9-3. The Eagles had ten hits in the contest, with Gracie Jones going 3-for-4.

Concordia Softball Earns Double-Header Sweep
Austin, Texas-Concordia University Texas scored three early runs to set the tone in a 6-3 win over the Eagles Thursday in game one. The Tornados would add a run in the third to hold a 4-0 advantage. But the Eagles responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to pull within 4-2. Concordia got both runs back, with one run in the bottom half of the inning and another in the sixth. The Eagles scored once in the seventh and had a running in scoring position, but couldn’t generate any more runs. Gracie Jones singled in Alison Cowart in the seventh. Aryonna Briggs went 2-for-2 to lead the Eagles at the plate.

Sul Ross State Softball Takes Game Three
Clarksville, Ark.-Sul Ross State University used a five-run fourth inning to upend the Eagles 9-5 on Sunday in game three of the series. Hayley Rivett ripped a 3-2 pitch to right centerfield for an RBI triple in the first. Jessye Rowland then singled in Rivett to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Lobos extended the lead to 8-2 with five runs in the fourth. Gracie Jones had an RBI single in the fifth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Rowland put the ball in play and the Eagles scored two more to make it 8-5 at the end of five. Trailing 9-5 in the bottom of the seventh, Cowart was robbed of a hit when shortstop Veronica Rodriguez made a diving catch for an out. The Lobos then got a groundout and a fly out to end the game. Rowland and Cowart each had two hits.

Rivett Homers Twice In Game One Win
Clarksville, Ark.- Hayley Rivett homered twice and Morgan Haupt threw a six-hitter to lead the Eagles to a 10-3 win in game one. Margaret Blackstar smashed her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the second to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Prior to the homer, Kaylyn Soria made an outstanding defensive play from her third base position crashing into net in foul territory for an out. Aryonna Briggs ripped a double to left center field to push two more runs across the plate in the fourth. Allison Cowart dropped in a single down the right field line to score Briggs. With the Eagles cruising to a 6-2 lead after four, Rivett blasted a solo home run in the fifth to add an insurance run. Meanwhile, Morgan Haupt allowed just three hits through five complete innings. Cowart made a diving save to stop the threat in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Rivett cranked out a three-run homer to make it 10-3. It was her eighth homer of the season. The Eagles finished with 13 hits. Cowart went 3-for-4. Rivett, Blackstar and Jessye Rowland had two hits. Rivett drove in four runs. Haupt struck out three in the win.

Abilene, Texas-McMurry University completed a three-game sweep against the Eagles with a 9-0 win on Saturday. McMurry had a 2-0 lead after three innings, but plated seven runs in the fourth to take a commanding 9-0 advantage. The Eagles would commit three errors in the inning. In the game, the Eagles were held to two hits.

Eagles Split With Lyon College On Sunday
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles scored all six runs in the first three innings of play to pick up a 6-2 win over Lyon College Sunday afternoon in game one. Lyon would hold a lead for just a short time in the game scoring once in the top of the first. The Eagles’ offense responded with a run to even the contest on Allyson Fultz’s sacrifice fly. After keeping Lyon scoreless in the top of the second, the Eagles plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Gracie Jones delivered a two-run single to put the Eagles in front 3-1. In the third inning, the Eagles got an outstanding defensive play to keep the lead. After Lyon scored one run, the Scots looked to threaten once more with runners on first and third with just one out. However, Sarah Todd got Whitney Mitchell to line out into a double play to end the threat. The momentum carried into the bottom half of the inning as the Eagles loaded the bases. Kaylyn Soria crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Mack Lucio singled in Rayli Ruby and Olivia Reed to make it 6-2. From there, relief pitcher Morgan Haupt kept the Scots off the board the rest of the game. The Eagles totaled nine hits, with Lucio, Jones and Ruby each collecting two hits apiece. Sarah Todd received the win in the circle and Haupt received the save.

Clarksville, Ark.-After a scoreless two innings, Hardin-Simmons scored five runs in back-to-back innings to pull away for a 10-1 win over the Eagles Sunday. The Cowgirls went hitless the first two innings, but had four hits in the third and three hits in the fourth to score a combined ten runs. The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch. The Cowgirls finished with eight hits, while the Eagles totaled two.

Clarksville, Ark.-Hardin-Simmons broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 win over the Eagles in the conference opener Saturday. Hardin-Simmons struck first with a pair of runs in the second, but the Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to even the contest. Kaylyn Soria led the Eagles off with a single and Allison Cowart then pushed pinch runner Ashton Daniel over to third base with a perfect sacrifice bunt. Hayley Rivett then blasted a two-run homer to tie the game. Hardin-Simmons got the two runs back in the fifth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. The Eagles wouldn?t score again. Both teams had six hits in the game. Mack Lucio paced the Eagles with two hits.

Edwardsville, Illinois-The Eagles let a 5-1 lead slip away as Franklin College stormed back to score a decisive five runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal a 6-5 win. The Eagles had a big fifth inning pounding out seven hits to produce five runs. Hayley Rivett blasted a two-run homer, while Kaylyn Soria and Allison Cowart had RBI singles. Jessye Rowland drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI and the Eagles led 5-1. But Franklin rallied for five straight hits in the seventh to pull out a come-from-behind win. Soria led the team with two hits.

Clarksville, Ark.-No. 6 Belhaven University completed a three-game sweep against the Eagles with a 9-0 run-rule win Saturday. The Blazers used a steady offensive game to keep the Eagles from a comeback. Belhaven scored three times in the first frame and twice in the second frame to set the tone for the game. At the plate, the Eagles recorded three hits in the game. The Eagles did threaten in the bottom of the fifth loading the bases, but the Blazers halted the rally to end the game. Rayli Ruby went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles.

No. 6 Belhaven University Edges Eagles
Clarksville, Ark.-No. 6 Belhaven University edged the Eagles 3-2 in a hard-fought game that went down to the final out Friday in game one. In the bottom of the seventh with the Eagles trailing 3-0, Mack Lucio launched a ball that appeared to be headed over the left field fence only to have the wind keep it in the park for a two-run double. The Blazers were then able to strand Lucio at second base to escape with a narrow win. The Blazers scored once in the second inning to hold a 1-0 lead for most of the game. In the sixth inning with two outs, the Blazers generated two runs on a double. Lucio was the tough-luck loser after tossing a complete game. At the plate, Lucio paced the Eagles with two hits. Belhaven would record eight hits in the game.

Comet Softball Team Sweeps Eagles
Clarksville, Ark.-Texas Dallas blanked the Eagles 14-0 in six innings in game one Saturday. The Comets recorded 14 hits against three Eagle pitchers. The Comets built a 3-0 lead after two innings and then scored four in the third to control the game. The Eagles had trouble getting on base having only five hits and did not draw a walk. Blaise English went 2-for-2 to lead the Eagles.

Clarksville, Ark.-Hendrix College edged the Eagles 8-6 after scoring three decisive runs in the sixth inning in game one. The Eagles led 6-5 after the fifth when Blaise English hit her second home run of the game. The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Eagles rallied to pull within 4-3. In the third, Sierra Jasna doubled in a run and English blasted a two-run homer. Lauren Gill then tied the game, 4-4, with a solo homer in the fourth. After the Warriors scored a run in the top half of the fifth, the Eagles came back and scored two runs in the bottom half. But the Eagles were unable to hold the advantage. English went 3-for-4 with four RBI.

Eagles Complete Sweep Against Howard Payne
Clarksville, Ark.-Allyson Fultz threw a five-hitter and the Eagles hit three home runs Saturday to complete a three-game sweep against Howard Payne University winning 7-3. Fultz was outstanding in the circle tossing a complete game inducing numerous flyouts in the contest while walking only one. Fultz received plenty of run support as Sierra Jasna and Lauren Gill hit two-run homers. Fultz helped her own cause by smashing a three-run shot in the first inning. Gill and Jasna hit their home runs in back-to-back innings and the Eagles led 7-3 after the fourth. Fultz then shut out Howard Payne the rest of the way for her third win of the season. Fultz, Gill and Kaylyn Soria had two hits in the game.

Double-Header Sweep For The Eagles
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles had a solid day at the plate pounding out 14 hits in a 8-6 win over Howard Payne University in game one Friday. Kaylyn Soria had an RBI single in the first inning to set the tone and Sierra Jasna and Blaise English each drove in runs in the second frame to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. Jasna tagged a single up the middle that scored two and English had an infield single to score one. Mack Lucio kept Howard Payne scoreless until the fourth inning. Howard Payne would actually take a 5-4 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the fifth. But the Eagles responded in a big way in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs. The Eagles had back-to-back bases loaded RBI singles and then scored on an error and a hit by pitch. Jasna, English, Soria, Allyson Fultz and Reese Ramirez had two hits apiece. Jasna had three RBI. Lucio received the win after tossing five. She struck out five.

Abilene, Texas- Hardin-Simmons’ starting pitcher Aubrianna Salazar threw a one-hitter as the Cowgirls blanked the Eagles 5-0 in game three on Saturday. The Cowgirls provided run support for Salazar in the first and third innings. Allyson Fultz doubled in the second inning for the Eagles only hit of the game. Hardin-Simmons padded the lead with two runs in the fifth on a home run.

Abilene, Texas-The Eagles opened the game with two runs only to have Hardin-Simmons University come back for a 8-3 win in game one Friday. The Eagles followed its two-run first inning with a one-run third inning. In the first Kaylyn Soria had a two-run single, and in the second, Sierra Jasna had an RBI single to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. However, the Eagles wouldn’t score again and the Cowgirls rallied for eight runs. The Cowgirls took the lead in the fourth and then padded the lead with four runs in the fifth. Jasna finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Clarksville, Ark.-Concordia University Texas got a two-out hit to tie the game and send the contest into extra innings and then recorded the game-winning hit in the eighth as the Tornados pulled out a 4-3 win against the Eagles Saturday. The Eagles scored twice in the fourth to break a scoreless game. It was Blaise English once again homering to put the Eagles in front. The Tornados answered in the top of the fifth with two runs. The Eagles moved ahead 3-2 in the sixth on an infield error by Concordia. In the seventh with two outs, Erica Riley sent a single to centerfield to push across the tying run. In the bottom of the seventh, the lead-off batter walked and then was advanced to second base on a sacrifice. However, the Tornados were able to record back-to-back outs to strand the runner in scoring position. An RBI double in the eighth proved to be the game-winner as the Eagles again stranded a runner in scoring position. Mack Lucio went 2-for-4 at the plate. Sarah Todd was the starter and went five innings allowing just one earned run.

Fultz Has Big Game With Pitching Win And Home Run
Clarksville, Ark.-Concordia University Texas had a big third inning and then held off the Eagles late as the Tornados won game one 7-4. The Tornados broke a scoreless game in the third with four runs. The Tornados added a run in the top of the fifth to make it 5-0, but the Eagles responded with two runs on two hits in the bottom half of the frame. Lauren Gill blasted a two-run homer that nearly cleared the batting cages out over the left field fence. Concordia went ahead 7-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Eagles rallied for two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles did have the tying run on deck, but couldn’t generate the run. Mack Lucio threw a complete game and struck out six in the loss. Rayli Ruby and Gill had two RBI.

Softball Team Splits DH At Hendrix College Invitational
Conway, Ark.-The Eagles had a solid performance at the plate, in the field and in the circle to pick up a 8-2 win over Hendrix College Sunday. The Eagles generated 12 hits and did not commit an error for starting pitcher Mack Lucio. Lucio tossed a complete game and struck out five while limiting the Warriors to no runs in the final five innings. Hendrix did score once in the first and second inning to hold a 2-0 advantage. But the Eagles evened the score after a Blaise English RBI double and a Lauren Gill RBI single. In the fifth, the Eagles took control of the game scoring four runs. Lucio helped her own cause by ripping a two-run double. English later followed with a two-run homer to make it 6-2. Lucio then retired the side in the bottom half of the fifth. The Eagles gave Lucio more run support in the seventh with two runs on two hits. English finished 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Mustangs Complete Comeback Against Eagles
Conway, Ark.-The Eagles came up short after storming back from a 7-0 deficit against Central Baptist College Tuesday dropping game one 7-4. The Eagles got the bats going in the top of the third, scoring all four runs in that frame. Kaylyn Soria ripped a two-run double to start the offensive outburst. With the bases loaded, Codi Shannon drew a walk to drive in a run. Aryonnah Briggs followed in an RBI single to make it 7-4. But Central Baptist got a strikeout and later a bases loaded pop out to end the scoring threat. Soria and Mack Lucio both had two hits.

Belton, Texas-The Eagles claimed a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth only to have Mary Hardin-Baylor respond with three runs to secure a 3-2 win Saturday over the Eagles. In the fourth, Rayli Ruby and Mack Lucio reached base on singles. With two outs, Lauren Gill doubled both runners in to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. But the Crusaders would answer with three runs to take the lead for good. The Eagles would get only two base runners the rest of the game. Both teams accumulated four hits.

Softball Team Suffers Road Losses
Belton, Texas-Mary Hardin-Baylor scratched across the game-winning run in the final inning to hand the Eagles a disappointing 1-0 setback in game one. With no outs, the Crusaders would record a sacrifice fly to push across the game-winner. It is the second time this week that the Eagles lost a game on a sacrifice fly. Mack Lucio had another strong outing but got the tough-luck loss. The Crusaders threatened on a couple of occasions, but Lucio and the Eagles’ defense worked out of the jams. Rayli Ruby had two hits for the Eagles.

Softball Team Drops Home Double-Header
Clarksville, Ark.-McMurry University pitcher Jenna Lewis outdueled Eagle starter Mack Lucio as the War Hawks narrowly won 1-0 in game one Monday in conference play. Lewis and Lucio went back-and-forth all afternoon showing their stuff. In the end, McMurry scratched across the game-winning run in the third on a sacrifice fly. Lewis had a no-hitter going through 6 and two-third innings before Kaylyn Soria broke it up with a two-out, two strike single. Lewis finished with 13 strikeouts. Lucio also pitched a complete game and fanned four.

Marshall, Texas-Nationally ranked East Texas Baptist University wrapped up a three-game sweep against the Eagles with a 15-0 win in five innings Saturday. The No. 4 Tigers’ offense powered in four runs in the first and second frames to establish an early lead. The Eagles had trouble recovering and couldn’t push any runs across the plate.

Marshall, Texas-Nationally ranked East Texas Baptist University took game one 10-2 in five innings against the Eagles Friday night. The Tigers struck first scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. The Tigers’ offense then added five runs in the third to hold a 9-0 lead. The Eagles didn’t record a hit until the fourth inning. The Eagles scored two runs off of three hits. Sierra Jasna ripped a single down the left field line and Mack Lucio followed with an RBI double. Blaise English later recorded a sacrifice RBI to pull the Eagles within 9-2.

Eagles To Recognize 50th Anniversary Of Title IX
Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks Athletic Department will recognize the 50th anniversary of Title IX during halftime of the women?s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Mabee Gymnasium. The celebration commemorates the anniversary of the landmark federal law signed in 1972 that prohibits gender discrimination in educational programs and activities and provided additional athletic opportunities for women.

Eagles Score Most Runs Since 2004 Season
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles exploded for 17 runs behind five players who had multi-hit games to post a dominating 17-0 run-rule win over Austin College in game two. It was the most runs scored for the program since the 2004 season. That year, the Eagles blanked Westminster College 17-0. There was plenty of offense to go around for the Eagles as every starter in the lineup recorded a hit. The Eagles produced two runs in the first behind Kaylyn Soria's two-run double. The Eagle bats really got going in the second generating six runs on five hits. Codi Shannon, Rayli Ruby, Mack Lucio and Aryonnah Briggs each drove in runs. Leading 9-0 after three complete innings, the Eagles plated eight runs in the fourth behind seven hits. Reese Ramirez had an RBI single, Ruby recorded another RBI, Sierra Jasna singled up the middle to score two runs, Soria doubled to center field to score two runs and Blaise English had an RBI groundout. Lucio was the winning pitching in her collegiate debut. Lucio got an outstanding diving defensive play from second baseman Codi Shannon to end the game. Lucio fanned seven in her outing. Lucio also helped herself in the circle going 4-for-4 with two RBI. Jasna went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Soria went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Briggs went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Ramirez went 2-for-2 with three runs. In all, the Eagles totaled 17 hits in the game.

Tiger starter Preslye Cox held the Eagles hitless until the fourth inning when Brittney Dean recorded an infield single. The Eagles hung tough behind the pitching of senior Jaela Martin only to have nationally-ranked East Texas Baptist University overcome an early deficit and pick up a 10-2 win in game one. Martin was spectacular against the No. 4 Tigers. The Eagles gave Martin a 1-0 liked to work with as she kept the Tigers at bay. Brittney Dean doubled in a run to make it 1-0 in the third. Martin retired the side in the first and second inning before the Tigers finally got a hit in the third. But Martin was able to strand that runner. The Tigers then scored three runs in the top of fourth with two outs. The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the fifth, while the Eagles got one run in the bottom half of the inning. Dean had another RBI double in the frame. But that would be all the run support the Eagles could get for Martin. Martin did not issue a walk in the complete game.

Reese Ramirez drew a walk to load the bases and the Eagles appeared primed for a comeback. However, LeTourneau shutdown the threat with back-to-back outs. The Eagles stranded seven runners in the game. The Eagles’ defense was outstanding as it turned four double plays. Blaise English had two hits for the Eagles.

The Blazers, ranked No. 10 in the most recent NFCA poll, held a 8-0 lead before the Eagles would register a run. In the fifth, Rayli Ruby had an RBI and Reese Ramirez recorded an RBI single. The third run came on a wild pitch. But the Blazers responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take away any momentum the Eagles had. The Blazers recorded 17 hits in the game.

Austin, Texas-Concordia University Texas edged the Eagles 2-1 in game three of the series Saturday. The Eagles made a valiant effort to get back into the game only to have Concordia secure the game late. Concordia scratched across a run in the third and another in the fourth to hold a 2-0 lead. But the Eagles fought back in the top of the seventh. Allyson Fultz started off with a double to right center field. Teague was inserted to pinch run and advanced to third in the next at-bat. Shanoe Teague would score, but the Eagles had two outs. Concordia was able to force a lineout to end the game.

UMHB Softball Takes Senior Day Game
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles ran into a hot-hitting Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusader team on Senior Day and lost 14-1. The Crusaders seemingly found every gap during the game, especially in the first inning when the visitors scored five runs. The Eagles trimmed it to 5-1 in the bottom of the second when Sierra Jasna scored on a wild pitch. The Crusaders blew the game open in the fifth when they scored eight runs on eight hits. The five seniors for the Eagles were honored prior to the game and included Brittney Dean, Riki Haase, Sydney Key, Megan Madden and Jaela Martin.

Sul Ross State Softball Team Completes Sweep

Sydney Key did more damage as she ripped a two-run single to give the Eagles a quick 4-0 advantage. After four complete innings, the game was tied 5-5. The Eagles broke the tie in the sixth when Megan Madden recorded an RBI single. Jasna later followed with another RBI single to push the Eagles in front 7-5. But McMurry scored a decisive three runs in the bottom half of the sixth. The Eagles outhit the War Hawks 14-12. Jasna went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Key finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs.

Starter Jaela Martin pitched a strong seven innings allowing just one earned run and six hits. The Eagles offense recorded four hits in the game.

The Eagles had a big sixth inning and then got the game-winning run in the eighth to secure an exciting 11-10 victory over Austin College. The Eagles started the game with two runs in the first, but didn’t score again until the fifth inning. Austin College built a 8-2 advantage until Sierra Jasna and Codi Shannon each drove in runs. The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth to trim the deficit to 9-6. Trailing 10-6, the Eagles exploded for four runs in the seventh behind an RBI triple from Sydney Key, an RBI double from Tori Reiber and RBI singles from Jasna and Riki Haase. With the score tied 10-10, the game went into extra innings and the Eagles produced the game-winning run on an Austin College error. Jasna went 4-for-5 at the plate. Jaela Martin received the win.

Softball Team Opens Season With Tough Losses
Hawkins, Texas-Jarvis Christian edged the Eagles 8-7 in game one to open the 2020 spring season. Jarvis Christian scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh on an Eagle miscue. The Eagles led 7-6 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Jarvis Christian to evened the score on an RBI single. The Eagles’ offense plated three runs in the first, highlighted by a Riki Haase two-run double. Tori Reiber doubled in the other run. But Jarvis Christian hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first to take a 4-3 lead. The Eagles added two runs in the fifth on another Reiber RBI double. Trailing 6-5, the Eagles scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 advantage only to have Jarvis Christian score once in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game. Brittney Dean went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Haase went 3-for-3. Reiber had a team-high three RBI. Candace Rogers took the loss in the circle.

2020 Softball Preview
Clarksville, Ark.-The 2019 University of the Ozarks softball team made vast improvements from the previous year and now the 2020 squad aims for even bigger things under head coach Denise Godwin. In Godwin’s first season, the Eagles improved their batting average more than 20 points from the previous season. Godwin’s squad also improved its run production. And, the team’s ERA was lower, while the team defensive fielding percentage increased in her first season. The Eagles also won three series in the American Southwest Conference, arguably the toughest softball conference in NCAA III. “The girls have been working hard,” said Godwin. “Their attitude is positive. They are looking forward to a new season. They are hungry for the opportunity to play. We are really excited to get the season started.” Eight players return with starting experience for the upcoming 2020 season. The Eagles also return two of their four pitchers from last season. Among the returners with starting experience include junior outfielder/pitcher Jaela Martin, junior outfielder Brittney Dean, junior outfielder Megan Madden, junior utility player Elisa Cantu, sophomore catcher/third baseman Tori Reiber, junior catcher/infielder Riki Haase, sophomore catcher/infielder Sierra Jasna and senior catcher/third baseman Sydney Key. In 23 at-bats, Martin hit .391, and in 27 games, Dean posted a .352 batting average. Madden was named All-Conference last season after hitting .304 with 31 hits and 19 runs. She ranked third in the ASC in sacrifice bunts with eight. Cantu produced seven sacrifice hits, while Reiber had four doubles and 11 RBI. Haase doubled twice and tripled once, while Jasna posted a .976 fielding percentage. Key is the team’s lone senior. The former Clarksville High School star hit .255 with a team-best six home runs. She had three doubles and 24 RBI. “Sydney is an outstanding leader for us,” said Godwin. “The other girls certainly notice her work ethic.” Leading the pitching staff will be sophomore Candace Rogers. Rogers earned All-Conference after posting six wins in her rookie season while tossing 86.1 innings. She fanned 28 batters and appeared in 24 games, second-most on the team. She also recorded four complete games and one save. She finished fourth in the ASC in games finished with 11. Newcomers to the team include Alex Dollins from Coupland, Texas; Cody Sparks from Lamar; Macy Pelts from Lamar; Codi Shannon from Ozark; and Britney Kirk from Dardanelle. “We do have a young team,” said Godwin. “We will have girls playing their first games collegiately. I see it as a good challenge for them to take the opportunity to step up and show what they can do. Our new girls will make an impact right away. I am excited to see what they can do. I think they will step up and perform.”

Softball Eagles Win Series Against Hardin-Simmons
Abilene, Texas-Senior pitcher Abby Mork threw a complete game and struck out six to lead the Eagles to a 5-4 win over Hardin-Simmons. The Eagles had a big first inning with Taylor Teague and Sydney Key tallying RBI. Mork later helped her own cause by singling in a run in the fifth inning, which proved to be important because Hardin-Simmons scored twice in the bottom of inning. Hailey Ostrander, Megan Madden, Brittney Dean and Tori Reiber all had two hits.

With the score tied 4-4, the Eagles exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Teague and Abby Mork had RBI in the frame. Teague and Ostrander recorded three hits while Candace Rogers threw five innings to receive the win.

Teague Drives In Game-Winner; Eagles Capture Series
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles thrilled the crowd with a dramatic 2-1 win over LeTourneau University in game three on a Taylor Teague RBI single to left field Saturday. With Riki Haase standing at second, Teague drilled a shot through the hole on the left side of the infield to push Haase across the plate and help the Eagles win the series. LeTourneau broke a scoreless game in the fifth with a run. Paige Lee, who was robbed of a double in the fourth inning on a spectacular catch from left fielder Emilee Anderson, did double in the sixth to bring home Elisa Cantu. And in the bottom of the seventh, Haase drew a one-out walk. Hailey Ostrander then recorded a sacrifice bunt to advance Haase. From there, Teague ripped a single to score Haase for the game-winner. Candace Rogers was outstanding as she kept LeTourneau to four hits in her complete game. Teague finished the game with three hits.

Key Homers Twice In Double-Header
Conway, Ark.-Central Baptist College jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and then had to hold off the Eagles to claim a 10-8 win in game one Tuesday night. Trailing 9-2 after five, Sydney Key homered and Tori Rieber recorded an RBI in the top of the sixth to bring the Eagles within 9-4. The Mustangs tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Eagles rallied in the final frame to make things interesting. In the top of the seventh, Brittney Dean had an RBI single and Key followed with a bases loaded hit by pitch to drive in another. Kieara Bryant drew a bases loaded walk and Reiber had an RBI from a groundout. With runners in scoring position, the Mustangs were finally able to make the final out to close out the game. Hailey Ostrander, Megan Madden and Dean each had two hits.

Hendrix College Softball Edges Eagles In Double-Header
Conway, Ark.-The Eagles had an early 2-0 lead only to have Hendrix College score four runs in the sixth inning to break a tie and win 9-7 in game one. In the first, Abby Mork ripped a two-run single to put the Eagles in front 2-0. The Warriors later tied the game and then went ahead 4-2 in the fourth. The Eagles wouldn't go down easily as Hailey Ostrander scored on an error and Mork again delivered an RBI single in the top of the fifth. The back-and-forth game continued in the bottom half of the frame with Hendrix taking a 5-4 advantage. The Eagles responded with a run in the top of the sixth to make it 5-5. Ostrander recorded an RBI single for the Eagles. But Hendrix took the lead for good with a four-run sixth. The Eagles battled back in the final frame and scored twice, but couldn't muster enough runs to complete the comeback. Megan Madden and Sydney Key both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Key and Mork drove in two runs.

Comets Softball Grabs Game Three
Richardson, Texas-The UT-Dallas offense powered its way to a 15-3 win over the Eagles in game three to complete a sweep. The Comets scored ten runs through three innings to make a comeback tough for the Eagles. The Eagles got on the board in the second inning when Paige Lee belted a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Sydney Key and Riki Haase produced RBI in the fourth, but that would be it for the Eagles' offense. Lee finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

No. 3 East Texas Baptist Takes Softball Sweep
Clarksville, Ark.-Nationally ranked East Texas Baptist University scored three runs in the third inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and take game three of the series 7-3 Monday. After scoring a run in the first, the Eagles rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to grab a 2-1 lead. Sydney Key singled up the middle with two outs to drive in Kieara Bryant. Jaela Martin followed with another single up the middle to score Abby Mork. But the Tigers answered with three decisive runs in the top of the third. The Eagles produced one run in the bottom of the third on Bryant's sacrifice bunt. The Tigers had two-out hits to drive in runs in the fourth and sixth inning. The Eagles got stellar defensive plays from outfielder Megan Madden and shortstop Hailey Ostrander to keep the game within striking distance. In the second inning, Madden robbed Kaitlin Hunter of a home run by stretching her glove above the left field fence to pull the ball back into to play. The Eagles recorded three hits against starter Beatriz Lara, who only lasted two innings. The Eagles collected four hits in the contest.

In the fifth, Candace Rogers ripped a two-out double and Kieara Bryant reached base when she was hit by a pitch. Megan Madden then roped a clutch double down the left field line to score both runs. But the Eagles went scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings while the Lady Tigers added four more runs. Rogers paced the offense with two hits. The Eagles totaled four hits in all.

Miller Drives In Game-Winning Run; Mork Tosses Six-Hitter
Clarksville, Ark.-With the game one hanging in the balance, Cheyanna Miller came through with a clutch two-out infield single in the sixth inning to drive in the game-winning run and push the Eagles past Hendrix College 4-3. The Eagles drilled three runs in the first inning all coming from Paige Lee's first collegiate home run. Lee sent a shot over the left field fence to score Sydney Key and Taylor Teague. Hendrix got two runs back in the top of the second, but starting pitcher Jaela Martin kept the Warriors off the board in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Hendrix managed a run in the sixth, but the Eagles played small ball in the bottom half of the frame to produce the game-winner. Lee singled to open the rally and Riki Haase followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner. Another sacrifice bunt placed Lee on third base with two outs. Miller then provided the heroics with a bloop single on the left side of the infield to push across Lee. Relief pitcher Candace Rogers then closed the door on Hendrix forcing a pop out, strike out and ground out to secure the win. Lee finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and Rogers received the win.

Softball Team Scores Nine In The Sixth To Earn 9-7 Win
Clarksville, Ark.-Facing a 4-0 deficit late in the game, the Eagles pulled off an incredible 9-7 come-from-behind win over Louisiana College Saturday. The Eagles scored all nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure a wild game three against the Wildcats. Louisiana College held a 1-0 lead all the way until the sixth inning when the visitors added three runs to push the advantage to 4-0. But the Eagles rallied behind seven hits and two walks in the bottom half of the sixth. The Eagles started the memorable inning with a pair of hits and back-to-back walks. The second walk was followed by a sacrifice fly and a single. With the bases loaded again, Jaela Martin recorded a single to drive in another run. Megan Madden reached on a fielder's choice and Hailey Ostrander singled in two runs to keep the rally going. Paige Lee produced the final runs with a two-run double and then scored on an error. The Wildcats did generate three runs in the top of the seventh. Lee went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Candace Rogers pitched the final 1.1 innings to receive the win.

Louisiana College Softball Team Takes Friday Double-Header
Clarksville, Ark.-A big two-out RBI double in the seventh inning proved to be the difference as Louisiana College escaped with a narrow 4-3 win in game one. Eagles pitcher Abby Mork struck out the first two batters in the top of the seventh, but Desiree Squires ripped a double to centerfield for the potential game-winning run. Abby Sterling then followed with another double to drive in Squires. In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles put a runner in scoring position as Tori Reiber singled and then stole second. From there, the Wildcats found a way to get the final two outs. In the third, Paige Lee drilled a double to right field to push across Hailey Ostrander and Elisa Cantu. The runs trimmed the deficit to 3-2. The Eagles got a clutch run in the sixth when Lee drew a bases loaded walk, but couldn't muster any more runs. Megan Madden went 3-for-3 to lead the Eagles at the plate and Lee went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI. Abby Mork suffered the loss in a complete game. She had five strikeouts.

Jackson, Miss.-A three-run third inning proved to be the difference in game one as Belhaven handed the Eagles a 6-4 setback. The Eagles struck first with a run from Tori Reiber in the opening frame. Belhaven tied the score in the bottom of the first and then posted three runs in the third. The Eagles got one run back in the fourth, but the Blazers responded with two runs later in the inning. The Eagles made it 6-4 in the fifth on a Paige Lee RBI triple and took advantage of a Belhaven miscue. The Eagles went down in order in the sixth. The visitors had a runner on third with one out in the seventh, but couldn't produce the run.

Raymond, Miss.-Abby Mork tossed a complete game shutout and Taylor Teague drove in two runs to push the Eagles past Belhaven University 4-0 Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play. With a 1-0 lead, Mork worked quickly in the first inning retiring the side. The Eagles gave her run support in the second as Paige Lee and Teague singled in runs. Mork induced a double play ball in the bottom half of the second to keep the momentum. Ahead 4-0, Mork then tossed six more shutout inning against the Blazers. Mork finished with three strikeouts and scattered six hits over seven innings. Teague finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Clarksville, Ark.-Sul Ross State University worked out of a seventh inning jam to edge the Eagles 3-2 Saturday in game three. The Eagles trailed 3-2 heading into the final inning and quickly put one runner on board as Tori Reiber singled up the middle. Jaela Martin later followed with a walk to put two runners on base. With one out, a groundout put both runners in scoring position. But Sul Ross got a clutch strikeout to strand both runners and seal the game. Sul Ross took a 1-0 lead in the first and held the advantage until the bottom of the fifth. Reiber drove in a run with a double. The Lobos answered with a run in the top of sixth, but the Eagles plated a run in the bottom half of the frame on a Taylor Teague RBI double. Sul Ross scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh on a single through the left side of the infield. Reiber paced the team with two hits. It was the third one-run loss of the season for the Eagles.

Starting pitcher Abby Mork was masterful in the shutout as she threw a one-hitter. Sydney Key got things going for the offense singling in a run. With one out, Sierra Jasna doubled in two runs. Elisa Cantu drove in a run and later stole home to make it 5-0. In the fifth after Tori Reiber recorded an RBI, Key sent the Eagle fans into a frenzy as she hit an inside the park homerun. The Eagles got the final run on a Megan Madden RBI single. The Eagles had 12 hits on the day, with four players recording multiple-hit games. Mork, who didn't allow a base runner until the third inning, struck out three and walked two.

Softball Team Suffers Shutout Against Mary Hardin-Baylor
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles had another tough loss against Mary Hardin-Baylor as the Crusaders got out of a bases loaded jam to pick up a 3-0 win against the Eagles Monday. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning, but the Crusaders were able to tag a sliding Tori Reiber at home plate and then force a fly out to end the threat. The Eagles played smart defense in the sixth inning as the Crusaders loaded the bases with no outs. Pitcher Candace Rogers forced back-to-back ground balls to third baseman Sydney Key, who promptly threw home for the outs. The third out came when Rogers got a force out at second base. The Crusaders eventually broke the scoreless game in the top of seventh with three decisive runs. Megan Madden went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles.

Mary Hardin-Baylor Softball Team Wins Twice On Sunday
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles appeared to be in control of the game until Mary Hardin-Baylor exploded for seven runs in the final inning to earn a 10-4 win in game one. Prior to the seventh, Mary Hardin-Baylor had ten hits and three runs. In all, the Crusaders recorded eight hits and three home runs in the seventh. In the second inning, Jaela Martin evened the game 1-1 with a RBI single. The Crusaders took the lead back, 2-1, in the fourth. But the Eagles generated three runs in the bottom of the fourth on two hits. Taylor Teague had an RBI double and Paige Lee followed with a two-run double to give the Eagles a 4-2 advantage heading into the fifth. With a 4-3 lead and needing just two outs in the seventh, the game took an unexpected turn as Mary Hardin-Baylor hammered out three home runs to take momentum of the game. Teague and Lee had two hits apiece.

Austin, Texas-The Eagles won their American Southwest Conference series against Concordia University Texas with a 3-1 win Saturday. The Eagles used a steady offense and pitchers Abby Mork and Candace Rogers allowed a combined two hits in the entire contest. The Eagles scored in the third, fourth and fifth innings and did not allow a run in the final three frames. In the fourth, Paige Lee ripped an RBI single to center field to drive in Elisa Cantu. In the fifth, Cantu delivered a single herself to drive in Alexis Holt. The final score came when Kieara Bryant doubled in Lee in the sixth. Rogers retired the side in the sixth and seventh innings. Rogers received the save, while Mork took the win.

Austin, Texas-The Eagles held a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but had to hold off Concordia University Texas to secure a 6-5 conference-opening win Friday night in game one. The Tornados loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half of the frame and then drove one run in with an infield single to cut it to 6-5. With the bases still loaded, Abby Mork got a fly out to center field to end the threat. The Eagles used a productive third inning to grab a 5-2 advantage. Sierra Jasna drew a bases loaded walk, then Mork delivered a two-run double and Sydney Key followed with a two-run single. Kieara Bryant drove in the Eagles' final run with a single to center field. Concordia made things uncomfortable for the Eagles rallying late, but Mork settled in to force a flyout. Mork helped her own cause by finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate.

Prather Gets First Win As Head Coach
Memphis, Tenn.-New head coach Denise Prather led her team to a 7-6 win over Huntingdon College Sunday earning her first collegiate win as a head coach. Prather's club got big hits and played clutch defense in the sixth and seventh to secure the game. The Eagles generated two runs in the first inning, two more in the second and another two more in the third. After the third, the game was all tied up at 6-6. Riki Haase tripled in a pair of runs in the third for the Eagles. From there, starting pitcher Candace Rogers was lights out as she did not allow a run in the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Kieara Bryant blasted a momentum changing solo home run to break the tie and prove to the be game-winner. Huntingdon threatened in the sixth loading the bases with no outs, but the Eagles got an out at home and then Rogers forced a double play to end it. The Eagles were tested once more in the top of the seventh as Huntingdon loaded the bases with one out. The Eagles got another out at home and then Rogers recorded a flyout to end the game. Bryant ended the game with two runs, two hits and two RBI. Rogers pitched a complete game.

Softball Team Opens Season With High-Scoring Losses
Memphis, Tenn.-The Eagles dropped an up-and-down game one 9-7 against Huntingdon College to open the season and spoiling the head coaching debut of Denise Prather after jumping out to a 4-0 lead early on. The Eagles generated four runs on four hits in the first, with Sierra Jasna, Paige Lee, Tori Reiber and Sydney Key all driving in runs. Lee had a double while the remaining three had singles. Huntingdon would eventually take a 5-4 lead after four complete innings, but the Eagles responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. This time Kieara Bryant and Abby Mork drove in runs with singles to the outfield. Huntingdon would even the game 6-6 in the bottom half of the fifth and then add three more runs in the sixth. The Eagles made another rally in the top of the seventh when runners were at the corners with one out. An RBI groundout pushed one run across, but Huntingdon was able to record the final out on the next batter. In all, the Eagles pounded out 11 hits, with Bryant and Lee pacing the team with two apiece.

Softball Team Completes Sweep; Advances To The Playoffs
Clarksville, Ark.-It was a big day for the University of the Ozarks softball team. Not only was it Senior Day, the 2018 club made history as it clinched a spot in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with an extra inning 7-6 win over McMurry University. Senior Katie Ventress drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to send her teammates into a frenzy. Hailey Ostrander laced a single to lead off the bottom half, and Ventress calmly ripped a shot to left field to score Ostrander. The Eagles needed a comeback as they trailed 5-1 after two innings. The Eagles responded with four runs in the third on five hits. The Eagles recorded back-to-back hits and Ventress had a sacrifice fly to bring in one run. Hannah Oler followed with a single and Taylor Teague continued the momentum with an RBI double. The next batter, Kieara Bryant, had an RBI double to tie the game 5-5. In the fourth, the Eagles scratched across a run, but McMurry answered with a run in the top of the fifth. From there, Ventress kept the War Hawks off the board as she pitched four scoreless innings in relief. At the plate, Ventress finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles' offense flexed its muscles during a 10-1 blowout win over McMurry University Friday afternoon. The home team posted three runs in the first and seven runs in the fifth. Hannah Oler launched a three-run homer in the first and then proceeded to throw a five-hit complete game. Oler kept the War Hawks off the board until the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles blasted McMurry for seven runs on four hits. McMurry didn't help its cause by committing three errors in the frame. The highlight of the inning came when Kieara Bryant hammered out a three-run homer to end the contest. Prior to that, Brooke Hoffsommer, Oler and Taylor Teague all drove in runs. Oler scattered five hits over five innings and did not issue a walk. She also finished with four RBI at the plate.

Tyler, Texas-Nationally ranked UT-Tyler tossed a no-hitter against the Eagles in a 3-0 game one win. The Patriots scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to secure the game. UT-Tyler followed up a no-hit game one win with a one-hit 9-0 run-rule victory. A consistent Patriot offense put runs on the board in every inning it batted.

Clarksville, Ark.-Senior pitcher Hannah Oler threw a five-hit complete game and senior Katie Ventress hit a solo home run to push the Eagles past Hardin-Simmons University 2-1. The Eagles struck first when Hailey Ostrander singled in a run in the second inning. Katie Ventress then hit a solo home run in the third to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. Hardin-Simmons did score once in the fifth, but Oler closed the door in the sixth and seventh innings. Oler issued just one walk and was charged with one earned run. Ventress finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the fourth, Brooke Hoffsommer singled in Riki Haase to break up the shutout. In the fifth, Ozarks got another RBI single, this time from Katie Ventress. Megan Madden later recorded an RBI in the sixth to bring the score to 8-3. Ventress posted two hits in the loss.

Eagles Top Texas Dallas 7-6 In Game Three
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles plated one run in the first and the second inning and then scored four times in the fourth to fuel a 7-6 win over Texas Dallas in game three of the conference series. Kieara Bryant produced an RBI in the first while Hailey Ostrander had a sacrifice RBI in the second. Texas Dallas did answer with two runs in the top of the fourth. But the Eagles responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, the Eagles rallied for four runs behind three hits. Brittney Dean and Brooke Hoffsommer had RBI singles. Two more runs came in thanks to a Comet error. Katie Ventress recorded an RBI single in the fifth to give Ozarks a 7-4 lead. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Abby Mork had a no-hitter going through 3.1 innings to start the game. Mork finished with five strikeouts to receive the win. Hannah Oler pitched the final inning to notch a save. The Eagles ended the game by throwing out a runner attempting to advance to third base on a fly out to right field.

Texas Dallas Notches Double-Header Win
Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles couldn't quite generate enough offense to hold onto an early lead as Texas Dallas won 3-1. In the first, Brittney Dean tripled to right field and later scored on a wild pitch to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, that would be all Ozarks would score. The Comets evened the score in the third and took the lead for good in the fourth. The Eagles put runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't push them across. Brooklyn Keeling paced Ozarks with two hits. In game two, the Eagles once again jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only to have Texas Dallas fight back for a 9-4 win.

Marshall, Texas-East Texas Baptist University starting pitcher Rocki Tello threw a no-hitter to outlast the Eagles 8-0 Saturday in game three of the American Southwest Conference series. Tello allowed base runners in the first and second inning, but was able to work out of each jam. Meanwhile, the Tigers offense provided Tello with four runs in the first inning. The Tigers scored once in the second and three times in the fourth.

Hendrix College Softball Team Takes Double-Header
Conway, Ark.-The Hendrix College Warriors fought off a late-inning rally by the Eagles to narrowly win 3-2 in game one. Hendrix held a 3-0 advantage, but the Eagles plated two runs in the top of the fifth. With tow outs and runners on second and third, Katie Ventress laced a single to centerfield to score both and bring the Eagles within 3-2. From there, the Warriors were able to strand one Ozarks' runner in the sixth and then retire the side in the seventh. Ventress finished 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Louisiana College Softball Team Upends Eagles
Pineville, La.-Louisiana College used a consistent offensive attack to upend the Eagles 7-1 Saturday in the final game of the series. The Wildcats posted runs in the first four innings while holding the Eagles scoreless during that stretch. The Eagles had runners on base in the second, third, fifth and sixth inning. In the fifth, Brooke Savoie doubled to right field. Savoie was then advanced to third base on a single, but the Eagles were unable to bring her home. In the following inning, the Eagles generated a run behind three hits. Hailey Ostrander singled in Hannah Oler, who reached base on a double.

Pineville, La.-The Eagles ran into a tough pitcher in Louisiana College's Savannah Settle Friday night as the right-hander struck out 11 to hand the Eagles a 8-1 setback in game one. The Eagles didn't get to Settle until the fourth inning. Trailing 5-0, Brittney Dean doubled in Brooke Hoffsommer for their first run of the game. Following the score, Settle didn't allow a runner in the fifth, sixth or seventh inning. The Eagles recorded two hits in the contest.

Alpine, Texas-Sul Ross State University scored five runs in the opening inning en route to a 8-0 American Southwest Conference victory Saturday. Sul Ross recorded two doubles and a single in the first to fuel the early lead. Ozarks couldn't recover and ended the game with just three hits. Sul Ross put runs on the board in the first four innings and struck out seven Ozarks' batters. Two of Ozarks hits were for extra bases.

Sul Ross State Opens Series With Double-Header Sweep Over Ozarks
Alpine, Texas-The Eagles scored a combined 12 runs over two games Friday, but still came up empty in their American Southwest Conference opener against Sul Ross State University. The Lobos built a 5-0 lead after three innings before Ozarks made an offensive push in the fourth. Hannah Oler and Brooklyn Keeling had RBI singles to score the Eagles first runs of the game. Oler would end up scoring on an error. With the lead cut to 5-3, Sul Ross State came back and scored five in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles would claw back again in the next frame, scoring two runs to make it 10-5. Sydney Key doubled in a run and Brooke Savoie recorded a sacrifice fly to score another. In the sixth, Brooke Hoffsommer hit a solo home run to give the Eagles their sixth run of the game. Katie Ventress went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Ozarks. Abby Mork took the loss in the circle. In game two, the Eagles would strike first scoring a run in the opening frame behind a Brittney Dean RBI double. Sul Ross State responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second. The Eagles would cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third on a Hannah Oler two-run homer. Ozarks followed that by tying the game the next inning on a Katie Ventress RBI single. But Sul Ross State was able to push across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth. With Sul Ross State leading 7-4, Ozarks responded again in the top of the sixth with two runs. This time Dean blasted a two-run homer over the left field fence. Sul Ross State had a two-out hit to score a run in the bottom of the sixth, and then held Ozarks scoreless in the top of the seventh to end the game. Oler took the loss.

Softball Team Drops Heart-Breaker To Open Season
Texarkana, Texas-The Eagles would tie the game 1-1 in the top of the seventh and then take a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth only to have Texas A&M-Texarkana spoil Ozarks season-opener 3-2 Friday on the road. Neither team was able to generate much offense through four innings, but Texas A&M-Texarkana did plate a run in the fifth. In the seventh, Ozarks loaded the bases to start the inning. Hannah Oler eventually scored to even the game 1-1 on a Riki Haase sacrifice RBI. In the eighth, Brittany Dean doubled in Katie Ventress to put the Eagles in front 2-1. However, the home team got a two-out double to begin the late-inning rally. Following a walk, Texas A&M-Texarkana recorded another double, which scored the game-winning run. Both teams had seven hits in the game, with Ventress powering her way to a 4-for-4 performance. Texas A&M-Texarkana plated three runs in the first and then followed that with a run in the second and five in the third to record a 10-0 win in game two.

2018 Softball Preview
Clarksville, Ark.-Several new faces and three returning senior All-Conference starters will play key roles in the upcoming 2018 University of the Ozarks softball season. The Eagles lost four starters from last year's squad, but have plenty of capable replacements entering the new season. The Eagles have eight new players on the roster and return All-Conference players Katie Ventress, Brooke Hoffsommer and Hannah Oler. The trio is expected to guide an otherwise young team. Ventress, a designated player and pitcher, led the team in batting (.289), hits (28), total bases (44), home runs (4), RBI (17), slugging percentage (.454), walks (13) and on-base percentage (.373). Hoffsommer, an outfielder, led the team with 18 runs and 111 at-bats and ranked second in hits (25) and total bases (30). Oler, a designated player and pitcher, led the team in innings pitched (123.0) and strikeouts (27), while also homering and driving in seven runs. In the circle, she led the club in complete games (14) and recorded one shutout. Oler, Ventress and Abby Mork make up the pitching staff for Rodriguez.
With numerous young players competing in the toughest NCAA Division III conference in the country, Rodriguez has emphasized the importance of adjusting to the collegiate game.
"The basics of the game don't change much, but the speed of the game does," he said. "Everything is hit or pitched a little harder, and the players move faster. Everything they did prior to collegiate softball has prepared them for this, but now they have to understand they need to make adjustments and move forward."
