No. 2 UT-Tyler Takes Friday Double-Header

Clarksville, Ark.-The nationally-ranked UT-Tyler Patriots induced six double plays and provided its pitching staff with plenty of offense as the Eagles dropped both games of its Saturday American Southwest Conference double-header.

In game one, the Patriots (20-4, 10-1 ASC) powered past the Eagles 13-4 and then took the nightcap 9-3.

In game one, the Patriots pounded out four hits to score four runs in the first frame. With the wind blowing out, the Patriots homered three times in the second inning to score six runs. Ozarks (9-11, 3-8) did respond with three runs in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to 10-3. Two of Ozarks' runs came on Josh Woolly's two-run double. Woolly had another RBI in the bottom of the sixth, but it wouldn't be enough in the seven inning game. The Patriots' defense killed a pair of rallies by forcing two double plays.

UT-Tyler out hit Ozarks 13-9. Woolly and Fielder Dufrene had two hits apiece. Tre Crockett (1-2) was charged with the loss.

In game two, Ozarks may have been its worst enemy as it committed four errors and grounded into three double plays and lined into another double play to end rallies. The Patriots took an early 2-0 lead on a home run in the first. Trailing 3-0, Ozarks produced one run in the bottom of the fourth. But UT-Tyler posted two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Justin Crider belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to pull Ozarks within 7-3. In the seventh, the Eagles were mounting a rally only to feel the sting of a double play ball. Ozarks recorded three straight singles in the seventh, and then with one out, the Patriots induced a double play to end the scoring threat.

The Patriots out hit Ozarks 13-10 in the game. Patrick Mixon went 3-for-4 to pace Ozarks at the plate. Starter Jack Waggoner (2-3) received the loss.

Ozarks will finish its series against UT-Tyler tomorrow with a single game beginning at noon.
