Chase Edwards Caps Season With Google Cloud Academic All-America® Honors

University of the Ozarks baseball standout Chase Edwards capped his 2019 academic and athletic season by earning Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team honors, it was announced Tuesday (June 4).

Clarksville, Ark. – University of the Ozarks baseball standout Chase Edwards capped his 2019 academic and athletic season by earning Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team honors, it was announced Tuesday (June 4).

Edwards, who was named to the Academic All-District Team in May, additionally earned All-Conference, D3Baseball.com All-Region and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors in 2019 after producing another outstanding season as a designated hitter. He ranked among the conference's top-10 in batting (.382), slugging percentage (.625), RBI (41) and home runs (9). The left-handed hitting Edwards produced 55 hits, including eight doubles, and 90 total bases. He owned a .451 on-base percentage and hit safely in 27 games. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior from Chandler, Ariz., becomes the program's sixth player to achieve Academic All-America honors.

"This award illustrates Chase's dedication and resiliency in the classroom and on the playing field," said Athletics Director Jimmy Clark. "His academic and athletic excellence perfectly represents the NCAA Division III model. His leadership on and off the field is so valuable to his team and our other student-athletes. This national honor demonstrates he is a premier NCAA student-athlete."

A Business Administration major with a 3.57 grade point average, he is a two-time member of the ASC All-Academic Team and a two-time All-Conference performer. 

The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Baseball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for their career.
