  • Sul Ross State Baseball Team Takes Game Three
    March 07, 2020
    Sul Ross State University pounded out 15 hits and held the Eagles to six to earn a 7-3 game three win Saturday. Both teams scored once in the first inning, but Sul Ross State took the lead for good in the second on an unearned run. Trailing 4-1, the Eagles scored once in the bottom of the fifth. Sul Ross countered with three runs in the sixth. The Eagles plated another run in the bottom half of the sixth, but that would be all. The Eagles left ten runners on base in the game. Rey Lozano kept hot at the plate collecting two hits.
  • Lozano Has Five-Hit Game In Double-Header Sweep

    Clarksville, Ark.-Starting pitcher David Beck cruised through six innings and mowed down ten batters as the Eagles took game one 9-5 against Sul Ross State University. Beck allowed just three hits to move his record to a perfect 4-0. The right-hander did not allow an earned run and issued two walks during his outing. The Lobos would actually grab a 2-0 lead in the top of the third before the Eagles answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 2-1. Chase Edwards doubled down the right field line to drive in the run. The Lobos led all the way until the bottom of the sixth inning. That is when the Eagles took over with five hits in the bottom half of the frame to score eight times. Rennie Arjona, Edwards and Luke Morrison highlighted the inning with two-run hits. Arjona, Edwards, Morrison and Brooks Boshers all had two hits in the game. Edwards drove in three runs.
  • Eagles Drops Midweek Game Against Hendrix
    March 03, 2020
    Conway, Ark.-The Eagles were hitless in five innings and totaled only six hits over nine innings as the Hendrix College pitching staff led the Warriors to a 8-3 win Tuesday night. The Eagles did score first when Bradon Mabry homered in the second inning to drive in two runs. But Hendrix responded with four runs in the bottom half of the second and never let go of the lead. The Warriors followed that with two more runs in the next inning to hold a 6-2 advantage. The Eagles would load the bases in the top of the ninth with one out. Josh Stephens drove in a run with an infield single. But the Warriors forced a fly out and a foul out on consecutive batters. All six hits came from difference players for the Eagles.
  • Hardin-Simmons Baseball Takes Extra Inning Comeback Win
    February 29, 2020
    Abilene, Texas-In an incredible swing of momentum, Hardin-Simmons scored a combined seven runs in the eighth and ninth inning and then plated the game-winning run in the tenth to pull out a 13-12 win. The Eagles held a 3-0 lead after four and a 6-0 lead after five. The Eagles had ten hits in the first five innings of play, while starting pitcher Chase Stephenson limited the Cowboys to just two hits during that span. Hardin-Simmons had a big sixth inning scoring five runs to trim the deficit to 7-5, but the Eagles burst out to a 12-5 advantage after scoring five runs in the top of the seventh. The big bat of Chase Edwards highlighted the inning with a three-run homer. But things quickly changed for the Eagles as Hardin-Simmons grabbed momentum of the game scoring three runs in the eighth and four more in the ninth to push it into extra innings. From there, the Eagles struck out three straight times in the top of the tenth and the Cowboys manufactured the game-winning run on a one-out RBI single. The Eagles defense had its toughest day this season committing four errors in the contest. Edwards went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs. Rennie Arjona went 4-for-6 with three runs.
  • Eagles Split With Hardin-Simmons, Benson Moves To 3-0

    Clarksville, Ark.-Hardin-Simmons overcame a 4-3 deficit after three innings of play and scored four runs in the fourth to take the lead for good in a 9-5 win. The Eagles plated two runs to open the game behind a two-run single from Brooks Boshers. The Cowboys grabbed a 3-2 lead after two, but the Eagles answered with two runs in the third on a Boshers bases loaded walk and an RBI groundout from Tyler Arco. The Eagles went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, while the Cowboys scored six times. Rennie Arjona and Rey Lozano each had two hits. 
  • Eagles Win In Extra Innings Behind Trey Vance Single
    February 22, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles completed a three-game sweep against McMurry University Saturday with a wild 13-12 win in 11 innings. Trey Vance knocked in Rey Lozano from second base for the game-winning run. Vance singled through the right side of the infield to allow the speedy Lozano to score and send the Eagles into a celebration. Both teams went through four pitchers with Josh Craven receiving the win after tossing the final four frames. The Eagles recorded 18 hits and five Eagles had multi-hit games. Lozano finished 5-for-6 with four runs and Rennie Arjona went 4-for-7 with three runs. Brooks Boshers finished 3-for-6 while Josh Stephens and Chase Edwards had two hits apiece. McMurry led 4-0 before the Eagles plated four runs in the third. The Eagles took a 11-6 lead in the sixth to take control of the game, but McMurry battled back to score twice in the seventh and four times in the eighth to take the lead back. The Eagles totaled seven hits in the sixth with Josh Stephens and Sam Silvestri recording two-run singles. Luke Morrison had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to even the game 12-12 and send the thriller into extra innings. 
  • Beck, Benson Dominate On The Mound In Sweep
    February 21, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-Starting pitcher David Beck was dominant in his outing against McMurry University throwing a no-hitter for 6.1 innings in Friday’s 13-0 win. Beck finished with a one-hitter over seven innings. The junior right-hander struck out seven and walked five. Beck faced the minimum in the third, fourth and fifth innings. After recording an out in the seventh, Beck issued a walk and then gave up a hit. The offense and defense were stout behind Beck. The Eagles pounded out 15 hits, with five different players recording multiple-hit games, and the defense played flawless without an error. Rey Lozano cranked out a solo home run in the first inning and then the Eagles added three more runs in the second. Sam Silvestri did most of the damage in the second with a two-run shot over the right field fence. Silvestri almost did it again in the fourth, but he was just inches away from putting over. From there, the Eagles plated a run in the fourth, and then four in the fifth and sixth inning. In the fifth, Josh Stephens blasted a two-run single. In the sixth, Tyler Arco recorded a two-run double. Arco had himself a day going 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Lozano, Chase Edwards, Luke Morrison and Silvestri each had two hits. 
  • Baseball Team Moves To 5-1 Behind Arjona And Stephenson
    February 19, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-Rennie Arjona went 4-for-4 with two RBI and starting pitcher Chase Stephenson threw six innings allowing just one run to push the Eagles to a 5-1 win over Hendrix College Wednesday. The Eagles plated three runs in the second inning behind five hits. Tyler Arco, Arjona and Rey Lozano each drove in runs to make the score 3-0. Stephenson then kept the Warriors offense at bay. The Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to increase the lead to 5-1. Arjona struck again as he doubled in a run and Sam Silvestri followed with a single to bring home Arjona. Zachary Brizendine pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning and Kris Sloan tossed a hitless and scoreless ninth inning to preserve the win. Arco finished 2-for-4 to compliment Arjona’s perfect day at the plate. Stephenson (1-0) allowed one run and struck out three in his outing to receive the win for Ozarks.
  • Eagles Complete Sweep Against Westminster

    The Eagles completed a three-game sweep against Westminster College with a 7-5 win Sunday. The Eagles had a big first inning to propel the offense. Chase Edwards doubled in Josh Stephens. Trey Vance singled in Edwards and Vance and Brooks Boshers later scored on an error. Westminster got a run back in the second and third inning. The Eagles scored in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 5-2 on a solo home run by Tyler Arco. Westminster responded with three runs in the eighth to even the score 5-5. But the Eagles answered with RBI singles from Erick Aguirre and Rey Lozano to take the lead for good. Lozano and Arco each had two hits. Zachary Brizendine received the win in relief. He pitched one inning and Kris Sloane threw the final inning to receive the save.
  • Eagles Notch Double-Header Win Against Westminster
    February 15, 2020
    Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles overcame a 3-0 deficit and plated eight runs in the third inning to secure a 10-7 win over Westminster College Saturday in game one. In the third, Chase Edwards doubled in Erick Aguirre and Tyler Arco. Luke Morrison singled in Edwards and Brooks Boshers singled in Josh Stephens. Tyler Arco was hit by pitch with the bases loaded. Erick Aguirre then singled in Boshers. Rey Lozano and Edwards each drew a bases loaded walk. Leading 8-3, the Eagles added a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Starting pitcher David Beck fanned nine.

    The 2020 version of the University of the Ozarks baseball team will look much different from last year with several new starters dotting the lineup. The Eagles lost five position starters from a year ago, but that will open up opportunities for the club’s other players, according to head coach Aaron Gentry.
