Eagles Open ASC Play With Big Road Win

Tyler, Texas-The U of O men's basketball team hit 27-of-31 from the free throw line and 8-of-13 from the three-point line to upend Texas-Tyler 87-81 Saturday in American Southwest Conference road action.

Ozarks' (3-1, 1-0 ASC) starters missed just four times from the free throw in the entire game and combined to score 69 points. Josh Berard paced the Eagles with 18 points, while Jace Richardson had 17 points. Josh Ferrell added 14 points and Ben Grice had 12 points off the bench. Ted Beard IV scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to get his fourth straight double-double. Ozarks trailed 36-34 at halftime, but rebounded to outscore Texas-Tyler (1-2, 0-1 ASC) 53-45 in the second half.  Ozarks would take the lead on a pair of free throws by Richardson at the 15:40 mark of the second half, but the Patriots gained a two-point edge just five minutes later. The Eagles then took a 61-59 lead on Ferrell's bucket and free throw with 8:18 remaining and never relinquished the advantage. Berard hit a clutch shot with under two minutes to go to secure the game. Richardson scored 13 points in the second half. Berard had 12 points in the second half. Kelby Robinson ended the game with a team-best 11 rebounds.

"It was a huge win for the team," said head coach David Ferrell. "Road wins are so tough to come by in this league. And being so young, it was encouraging to see the team fight back in the second half. At one point in the second half, we had three freshmen and two sophomores on the court. Our bench played well and gave us valuable minutes. I thought Josh Ferrell played the best game of his collegiate career. It was also good to see Ted Beard get a double-double in his hometown."

Ozarks will host Texas-Dallas December 4.
