Sul Ross State Men Edge Eagles In ASC Play

Alpine, Texas-Sul Ross State shot 53 percent from the field in the second half, including hitting 6-of-8 from the three-point line, to pull out a 79-71 win over the Eagles in American Southwest Conference play Saturday.

The two teams played even in the first half as the score remained deadlocked, 29-29, at intermission. Josh Ferrell would hit three shots from long-distance to score nine first half points. In the second half, Jace Richardson would miss just one of his seven shots from the floor to pace Ozarks (8-14, 4-13 ASC) with 13 second half points. After battling back-and-forth for the first ten minutes of the second half, Sul Ross State (4-17, 4-12 ASC) eventually gained a little momentum and moved ahead 57-50 with 8:52 remaining. From there, Ozarks cut it to 60-55 on a Ferrell three-pointer. But Sul Ross responded with back-to-back three-pointers to hold a ten-point advantage. Ozarks trimmed it to six points four different times within the final three minutes, but couldn't get any closer.

Richardson ended the game with a team-high 20 points. Kelby Robinson posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Ozarks will travel to Austin, Texas, to face Concordia University Texas February 12 and then to Belton, Texas, to face Mary Hardin-Baylor February 14.
