Texas Dallas Men Edge Ozarks In ASC Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-The Texas Dallas men overcame a pair of double-doubles from Josh Berard and Kelby Robinson to edge the Eagles 77-73 Saturday in their American Southwest Conference opener.

Berard scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Robinson had 19 points and 14 rebounds, but it wouldn't be enough as Texas Dallas (5-0, 1-0 ASC) fought off Ozarks (4-1, 0-1 ASC) late in the game to secure the victory.

The Comets held a 47-40 halftime advantage behind a 59 percent shooting clip from the field. Texas Dallas drilled seven three-pointers in the first half and six more in the second half. Ozarks held the lead on three occasions in the first half, but never had the lead in the second half. The Eagles did trim the deficit to single digits on more than one occasion in the second half behind Berard and Robinson. Back-to-back layups by Robinson pulled Ozarks within 50-44 at the 15:11 mark, and minutes later Berard scored two consecutive baskets to get the Eagles within 58-55. With 6:41 remaining in the game, Robinson made a shot to pull Ozarks within 61-59. Berard drilled a three-pointer with 2:18 left, but that would be as close as Ozarks would get.

Jace Richardson added 12 points.

Ozarks will play back-to-back exhibition games in December before hosting host Sul Ross State January 2.
