Berard Converts Last Second Three-Point Play To Lift Eagles

Jackson, Miss.-Josh Berard converted a three-point play with just seconds to play to lift Ozarks past Belhaven University 80-79 in conference action Saturday.

The road win gave Ozarks (10-8) its most overall wins since the 2008-2009 season. With Ozarks trailing 79-77, Berard made a layup and then calmly sank a free throw to give the Eagles the lead for good. Ozarks held a 39-36 lead at the half behind the play of Jace Richardson and Dylan Gray. The sophomore duo scored a combined 27 points. The Eagles opened the second half on a 9-3 run to hold a 48-39 advantage. Belhaven (2-17) then chiseled into the lead and owned a 51-49 advantage with 14:02 left. Belhaven took a 77-71 lead with less than three minutes remaining before Ozarks stormed back. Richardson made back-to-back layups and Berard drilled a three-pointer with 1:15 left to pull Ozarks within 77-76. The two teams traded free throws and Belhaven added another with seven seconds left to move ahead 79-77.

Richardson finished with 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field. Berard had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Gray ended with 17 points.

Ozarks will face Texas-Dallas February 1 in Richardson, Texas.
