THE BASICS
The Eagles had a big second half outscoring Mary Hardin-Baylor 52-41 but still fell 84-80 Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play. The Crusaders led 43-28 in the first half but the Eagles found a rhythm in the second half to pull within striking distance with less than five minutes remaining. After chipping away at the deficit in the final ten minutes of play, the Eagles got to 75-67 on a Cordy Winston layup with 3:38 left. James Helzer drilled a three-pointer to make it 77-72 and Bryson Johnson hit two three-pointers late to pull within 82-78. However, the Crusaders made two key free throws with nine seconds left to extend the lead to 84-78. Jacobe Davis had an impressive offensive night hitting 10-of-21 from the field to score 24 points. He also dished out five assists and recorded two steals.
