THE BASICS

The Eagles had a big second half outscoring Mary Hardin-Baylor 52-41 but still fell 84-80 Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play. The Crusaders led 43-28 in the first half but the Eagles found a rhythm in the second half to pull within striking distance with less than five minutes remaining. James Helzer drilled a three-pointer to make it 77-72 and Bryson Johnson hit two three-pointers late to pull within 82-78. However, the Crusaders made two key free throws with nine seconds left to extend the lead to 84-78. Jacobe Davis had an impressive offensive night hitting 10-of-21 from the field to score 24 points. He also dished out five assists and recorded two steals.
