THE BASICS

The Eagles gave No. 24 Texas Dallas all it wanted in the American Southwest Conference Tournament semi-finals match Friday, but fell short 2-1 in overtime. The Comets connected on the game-winner in the 93rd minute to eliminate the Eagles from the playoffs. The Eagles' defense, led by goalkeeper Logan Valestin, had to fight off 26 Comet shots during the match. Valestin made a number of tremendous saves to keep the score at a minimum. He had seven saves in the first half. The Comets would record nine corner kicks in the first half. The match's first two goals came within one minute of each other. The Comets blasted a shot in the third minute to take an early lead off a free kick. But the Eagles quickly tied the match with a penalty kick goal from Drew Mott just seconds later. Even 1-1, the match went into overtime where the Comets held the Eagles shotless. The Eagles graduate one senior. Valestin and Mott were named to the All-Tournament Team.
