Swim Teams Wrap Up SCAC Championships, Finish Sixth Overall

Nicolai Van Zyl set a program record in the breaststroke at the SCAC Championships.

San Antonio, Texas-The women's and men's swim teams wrapped up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships with a sixth-place finish in San Antonio. 

The women scored 178 points, while the men posted a score of 233.

More records fell on the final day of competition. Overall, the women's and men's team broke 18 school records at the Championships. Rosie Wade smashed the 1650 free program record by swimming a 18:37.77 to finish fifth overall. Shalley Coffin swam a 20:48.61 to finish 12th. In the 200 breaststroke, Skylar Frazier placed 15th swimming a 2:48.85. In the 200 fly, Catherine Wellborn posted a time of 2:38.95 for 13th place. In the 200 back, Coffin finished 20th with a time of 2:33.85. In the 100 free, Jacquelyn Gearhart swam a 1:08.26 for 24th place. The Eagles also set a new school record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:59.18. That time placed them sixth in the event. Rosie Wade set a new program record in the 200 fly. Dawn Hampton also participated in the diving competition.

In the men's 1650 free, Jacob Jones finished seventh overall swimming a 17:11.09. Nicolas White swam a 17:57.06 for 13th place. Michael Vargas placed 17th with a time of 22:16.81. In the 200 backstroke, Bailey Butler placed 15th and Michael Vargas placed 16th. Butler posted a time of 2:23.57 and Vargas posted a time of 2:28.193. In the 100 free, Jacob Jones set a school record swimming a 46.97. Josh Collins swam a 49.54 and Jaeden Miller swam a 1:06.65. In the 200 breaststroke, Nicolai Van Zyl had a record 2:18.76. Nicolas Dunsworth posted a time of 2:21.42. Michael Walkine swam a 2:32.30. In the 200 fly, Josh Collins swam a 2:08.52 for 14th place. Gustavo Almaraz finished 16th with a time of 2:19.25. The Eagles had two teams compete in the 400 free relay. Van Zyl, Collins, Walkine and Jones swam a 3:20.18 for seventh place. Dunsworth, Butler, Almaraz and White swam a 3:44.15 for 14th place.
