Eagles Compete in Collin County Tournament

Plano, Texas-The men's tennis team competed in the annual Collin County Tournament, hosted by Collin College in Plano, Texas. A number of universities attended this event including Newman, Jacksonville College, Arkansas Tech, Harding, and Texas Dallas.

Representing flight 1 singles, Melle Van Duijn nearly clinched a first round main draw win, but fell short as he lost to Sammy Hogan of Texas A&M-Texarkana 7-6(4), 6-2. He received a bye in the quarterfinal consolation before losing 8-2 to Florian Schmidt of Texas Wesleyan.

In flight 2 singles, Jordan King received a bye in the quarterfinal consolation round and was defeated by Alberto Cabrillo of Texas A&M-Texarkana, 8-3.

For flight 6 singles, Bryant Cason lost to Eric Gurtner of Texas Wesleyan in a close third set tiebreaker (6-4, 1-6, 10-5) in the first round main draw. He received a bye in the quarter final consolation bracket before receiving a loss to Martin Zarate of Jacksonville College, 8-1.

In men's doubles, the pairings of Van Duijn/King, Lankford/Martinez, and Cason/Johnson won their first round matches in the main draw, but then were all defeated in the second round.

The Eagles will resume match play during the 2018 spring season.
