Men's Tennis Team Posts Dominating Win Over Howard Payne

Austin, Texas-The University of the Ozarks men's tennis team posted a convincing 9-0 win over Howard Payne University Saturday in Texas.

The Eagles quickly swept doubles with Reid Birch and Spencer Turner winning 8-5 at No. 1. Cole Lankford and Jonah Martinez took a 8-0 win at No. 2 and Melle Van Duijn and Bryant Cason won 8-0 at No. 3. In singles, Martinez (No. 3), Turner (No. 4) and Kade Cushing (No. 6) all cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Against Concordia, the match could have gone differently even though the Tornados won 8-1. The Tornados narrowly won 8-6, 8-7 and 8-7 in doubles. Turner continued his outstanding weekend with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Van Duijn lost 7-6, 6-3 (10-8) at No. 1 singles.

Against Texas Lutheran, Lankford and Martinez won 8-4 in doubles, while Van Duijn and Bryce Johnson won 8-5 at No. 3. But the Bulldogs won enough singles matches to earn the 5-2 victory.

The Eagles will play in Conway against John Brown University and Hendrix College February 17.
