Wood, Smith Pace Eagles At Rhodes College Invitational

Memphis , Tenn.-Freshman Jonathon Wood and junior Kole Smith paced the Eagles as the team's top two runners at the Rhodes College Invitational Saturday in Memphis.

The 8K race featured 17 teams from NCAA I, NCAA II and NCAA III. Wood ran a 31:45.96 to place 133rd overall. Smith finished 141st with a time of 35:31.53. Spencer Turner (36:45.03), Tyler O'Banion (36:46.52) and Wyatt Metzger (40:54.14) rounded out Ozarks' runners.

"It was a great effort today," said head coach Jeremy Provence. "The team showed a lot of pride in themselves and Ozarks. The competition was stiff but the team didn't back down. Before the race I told them to go out and race from start to finish, and not get complacent. I wanted them to keep pushing until the finish line and they did a great job of doing that. We can take a lot from this race moving forward."

Ozarks will travel to the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville October 1.
