Eagles Set For ASC Championships Saturday Morning

Clarksville, Ark. - The 2019 American Southwest Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are set to run Saturday, November 2 in Abilene, Texas at the ACU Cross Country Course hosted by McMurry University.

The men's 8,000-meter race will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at 10:15 a.m.

Eleven member schools will compete in the 24th conference championships with all being eligible for the title.

Hardin-Simmons looks to repeat as the women's champion after winning its second title last year on the same course. UT Dallas is the defending men's champion, claiming its first championship in 2018.

For the women, HSU, LeTourneau, Louisiana College and Mary Hardin-Baylor have each won meets this season, with the Cowgirls winning three times. Ozarks  and UTD men have won two meets this season while Concordia Texas has claimed one. Other teams competing include Belhaven, East Texas Baptist, McMurry and Sul Ross State. 

Belhaven is eligible for the championship for first time after completing the membership process to join the NCAA.

Four women have won individual races this season - Hardin-Simmons senior Sydney Tencate and freshman Riley Stirm, LeTourneau senior Alexis Segura and Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman Holly Dasher.

Tencate has the fastest 6K time of the season at 22:59.5 and she will looking to become the fourth women to earn All-Conference First Team honors.

Segura is the defending individual medalist and enters the championship with the second-best time of the year at 23:17.0. Segura performs double-duty for the YellowJackets by competing in soccer as well.

Tencate, Segura and HSU sophomore Yadira Loera were First Team All-Conference selections last year.

On the men's side, Ozarks junior Nathaneal Rankin and senior Michael Harris along with HSU freshman Eric Monroy has all won races in 2019.

Rankin, the 2017 ASC medalist, has the best 8K mark of the season at 25:14.2, followed by Harris at 26.10.4. East Texas Baptist junior Mack Broussard won the individual championship last season and has the third best time this year at 26:33.5.

Broussard, Rankin, Harris, UTD junior Andres Uriegas and HSU senior Tyler Rohrman were First Team All-Conference honorees in 2018.
