Lady Eagles Sweep Mississippi College On Saturday

Ozarks (18-9, 9-7) used a three-run third inning and turned in their best hitting performance of the series to take a 3-1 victory over the Lady Choctaws (14-9, 8-8) in game one. The Lady Eagles recorded four of their seven hits in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Kara Bartholomew was the first to reach base on a bunt. Kayla Reedy later singled through the right side with two outs. Jamie Johnson then smacked a triple to score both runners. Erica Newell recorded the final RBI of the inning when she singled in Johnson. Reedy, Johnson and Bartholomew each had two hits in the contest. Amanda Luney (5-3) received the win. A dramatic three-run seventh inning lifted the Lady Eagles past Mississippi College 3-2 in the final game of the series. With the Lady Choctaws holding a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, Ozarks scored three runs on four hits to post a Saturday sweep of Mississippi College. Newell started the inning with a single to left field. Brooke Grice would hit a double to advance pinch runner Sydney Johnson to third base. Jeanne Randall followed Grice's double with a walk to load the bases for Devon Bottoms. Bottoms promptly smacked a single on the first pitch to score two runs and tie the contest at 2-2. Kaleigh Dees recorded a sacrifice bunt to put Randall at third and Bottoms at second. With momentum in favor of the Lady Eagles and only one out, Bartholomew stepped to the plate and slapped a hit to left field to drive in the game-winning run. Grice had a team-best two hits. Dana Marvin (8-2) received the win after pitching five innings and recording five strikeouts. Ozarks will host UT-Dallas in a four-game series beginning on April 2 with a double-header at 2 p.m. The Lady Eagles will continue their series on April 3 with a double-header beginning at 11 a.m.
