Lady Eagles Drop Close Games To Mississippi College

Mississippi College (14-7, 8-6) scored two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to upend the Lady Eagles (16-9, 7-7) 3-0 in the first game of a double-header. Ozarks threatened to score in the third when Kara Bartholomew and Shannon Rainbolt each singled with one out. Both Bartholomew and Rainbolt put themselves in scoring position when they advanced a base after stealing. However, the Lady Eagles were unable to knock in either and the game remained scoreless until Mississippi College's two-run fifth inning. Ozarks collected five hits in the contest, all coming from five different players. Chanceree Catlett (5-4) received the loss and gave up just four hits. A costly Ozarks' miscue in the seventh propelled the Lady Choctaws to a 2-1 victory in the second game of the twinbill and pushed the Lady Eagles out of fourth place in the ASC East Division standings. With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Mississippi College's Randi Moak scored the game-winning run on an error as Janet Chapman stole second. Ozarks was then unable to produce a run in their final at-bat. The Lady Eagles were the first to strike in the game when Erica Newell knocked in Shannon Rainbolt with a double giving Ozarks a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Rainbolt reached on an error and then stole a base to give Newell the RBI opportunity. Junior pitcher Dana Marvin would hold the Lady Choctaws scoreless until the sixth inning when they scored one run on two hits. Ozarks totaled four hits, with each coming from four different players. Marvin (7-1) received the loss after pitching seven innings and striking out three. Ozarks will continue their ASC match up with Mississippi College tomorrow in a double-header beginning at 12 p.m.
