UT-Tyler Softball Team Completes Sweep Of Ozarks

UT-Tyler's Sara Jones recorded an RBI single in the top of the sixth that proved to be the game-winner in game one. Jones, pinch hitting, delivered a shot through the left side of the infield that scored LaRheta Boatman, who reached on a fielder's choice two batters earlier. Ozarks (10-9, 0-6) did have a chance in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but failed to put any across the plate. The Lady Eagles tied the score at 1-1 in the fifth when Jessica Pianalto singled in Dara Clark. Clark reached base when she led off the inning with a single. Ozarks stranded ten runners on base in the game. Dana Marvin (1-4) received the loss. She pitched four and two-third innings and struck out four. Ozarks equaled the Patriots (18-4, 7-1) in the hit category, 8-8. Pianalto went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI. Ozarks couldn't come up with any timely hits as UT-Tyler took early momentum to hang on for a 7-4 win in game two. The Patriots held a 2-0 lead after the first and a 4-1 advantage after three. Danielle Dirks doubled in Jeanne Randall to give Ozarks their first run of the game. Trailing 4-1, Ozarks had their chances in the fourth when they had two in scoring position and only one out, but the inning ended on a double play. Ozarks made things interesting in the next inning when Pianalto cranked out her first career homer. Pianalto's two-run shot to centerfield made the score 5-3. A two-run double in the top of the sixth gave UT-Tyler a 7-3 cushion. Chelsea Joslin's solo homer in the seventh made it 7-4. It was Joslin's third homer of the year and her second in the four-game series. Chanceree Catlett (4-4) received the loss. Dirks went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI. Ozarks travels to Marshall, Texas, to face East Texas Baptist University in a four-game series March 31-April 1.
