Softball Team Splits In Spring Kickoff

Stephany Henson threw a three-hit shutout to lead Ozarks to a 3-0 win over Cornell College in game one. Ozarks dropped the second game against University of Dallas 3-0.

Henson (1-1) kept Cornell at bay throughout the game, fanning four through seven innings of work. Henson, who did not issue a walk the entire game, allowed just two base runners through the first five innings. Ozarks' offense gave her all the runs she needed in the fourth. Nicole Ashley led off the top of the inning with a single. Emily Burns then moved Ashley into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Kelsey Mefford delivered an RBI double for the first run of the frame. In the same inning, the Lady Eagles (1-3) took advantage of a pair of Cornell errors and went up 3-0. Henson then gave up just one hit in the final three innings to complete the shutout.

Four different players had one hit apiece for Ozarks.

The Lady Eagles out hit University of the Dallas 6-4 in game two, but couldn't get the timely hits necessary to pull out a win.

The Crusaders (3-4) had a pair of triples in the game, both of which would come with runners on base. Shana Revelos tripled in a run in the second for the first run of the game. Another triple, this one driving in two runs, came in the third inning for the Crusaders. Ozarks had runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Kaci Foster (0-1) took the loss after tossing four innings as the starter. She struck out four.

Ali Mathis paced Ozarks with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.

Ozarks will play in the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament March 5-6.
