Annual Conference SAAC Meeting Another Hit

The group's agenda covered topics ranging from supporting Special Olympics to legislative proposals to sportsmanship to social media. It was decided that the date for the sixth annual "Make a Change in 14 Days" loose coin collection charity campaign will be held from January 23-February 5 on the local campuses. The SAAC group participated in team-building games and also joined together to discuss multiple roundtable topics, including structures of meetings on campus and ideas to generate higher attendance at sporting events. The student-athletes voted on the ASC Championship T-Shirt Design Challenge entries. The winner will be announced next week.

ASC/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III National SAAC Representative Dalaine Whitlock provided notes from the national level, and the guest speaker was Donald Hooton, Jr., of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, who gave a presentation on the dangers of steroids and dietary supplements.

"As a conference, we look forward to this meeting every year," ASC Assistant Commissioner and SAAC Advisor Greg Weghorst said. "Getting to see the energy and bright ideas that the student-athletes bring to the table is encouraging. More so than ever after this year's gathering, it is clear that the ASC has so many that truly enjoy every aspect of being an NCAA Division III student-athlete."

Hardin-Simmons junior basketball player Ryan Carlson served as chair at the meeting, while Ozarks senior tennis player Matt Arant and senior baseball player Ian Bryan handled co-vice chair duties. Ozarks' SAAC advisor Shaun Wiseman also attended the event.
