ASC Student-Athlete Advisory Committees Set For 7th Annual “Make a Change in 14 Days”

Arrangements are in place to collect change or charitable items (coats, canned goods, etc.) on local campuses over the 14-day period of Jan. 21 through Feb. 3 – coinciding with the turn of the ASC's divisional basketball schedule.

Ozarks' proceeds from SAAC will assist the Interfaith of Johnson County organization.

The conference-wide project is also designed as a friendly challenge among the ASC campuses. The top three collecting member SAACs will be honored by the conference after a vote of their peers.

Last year, the SAAC groups combined to raise $10,598.50 for charity. In six years, over $50,000 has been raised to benefit 57 different organizations. In each of the last two campaigns, the SAAC groups have topped the $10,000 mark.

"Make a Change is a great way for our campuses to give back to the local communities or to the foundations that are working hard to make a difference," said Mary Hardin-Baylor SAAC President Jenna Womack, a senior soccer player. "Every year we try to find ways to make it bigger and better and that is what makes this project that much more rewarding."

Schreiner was the top-collecting ASC institution for the second straight year in 2012, raising $2,365.87 for the Kerrville YMCA so that children in its local community could have the opportunity to be involved in team sports. Former league member McMurry won the inaugural "Make a Change in 14 Days" title in 2007 (donated to Children's Miracle Network), followed by three straight crowns by Louisiana College (St. Frances Cabrini Cancer Center for breast cancer research).

"It is inspiring to see the energy, determination and passion that our member Student-Athlete Advisory Committees show at this time every year," said ASC Assistant Commissioner and SAAC Co-Advisor Greg Weghorst. "Make a Change in 14 Days is a project that we are extremely proud. We are excited to see what results it brings in 2013."

Specific collection details for each institution can be found on their official athletics websites.
