Softball Team Opens Season With Losses

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team opened the 2014 season with a pair of losses to Concordia University Texas in American Southwest Conference play Friday.
    
Concordia University Texas (2-0, 2-0 ASC) took game one 17-8 in a run-rule win behind a 15-hit attack. The Tornados exploded for five runs in the second and fourth innings to put the game out of reach. Ozarks (0-2, 0-2 ASC) trailed 4-3 after one complete inning on a Molly Bowman two-run hit and an error. The Tornados answered with five runs in the top of the second, but Ozarks rallied for two runs to trim the deficit to 9-5. Maggie Johnson and Krysten Shavers each had RBI in the frame. The Lady Eagles had ten hits in the contest, with Kayla Gray, Shawnee Sorensen and Bowman each collecting two apiece. Haley McKee (0-1) took the loss. 
    
Concordia took game two 9-1 as it built a 5-1 advantage after two innings. Michelle Edmiston ripped an RBI single in the first inning for Ozarks only run of the contest. Again, Ozarks did well at the plate collecting nine hits. Shavers finished 3-for-3 and Maggie Johnson went 2-for-3.Tabitha McClane (0-1) took the loss.
    
Ozarks will host the Tornados Saturday in a double-header starting at 12:00 pm.
