Gray, Hames Power Lady Eagles To 11-6 Win

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team powered its way to its first American Southwest Conference win of the season when it defeated Sul Ross State 11-6 Sunday.
    
Ozarks (2-13, 1-11 ASC) trailed 2-0 in the top of the first, but Kayla Gray answered with a two-run homer to even the score in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Lobos (2-13, 1-11 ASC) then scored three runs in the top of the fourth to move ahead 5-3, but Ozarks matched that in the bottom half of the frame to tie the contest 5-5. This time it was Bailey Hames who sent one over the fence for the Lady Eagles. Hames' homer drove in three runs. Sul Ross battled back to hold a 6-5 advantage, but Ozarks would finally take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth behind four runs. Krysten Shavers highlighted the inning with a two-run double. Hames would do more damage in the sixth when she doubled in a pair of runs to increase Ozarks lead to 11-6. In all, Hames recorded five RBI and had two hits in the game. Gray and Shavers each went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
    
Haley McKee (2-5) threw a complete game to earn the win. She struck out two and walked just one.
    
Ozarks will travel to Abilene, Texas, to face Hardin-Simmons University March 14-15.
