Lady Eagles Drop Series to No. 3 Texas-Tyler

Clarksville, Ark.-The No. 3 ranked University of Texas-Tyler completed a softball sweep of the University of the Ozarks Lady Eagles Friday in Clarksville.

In game one of the Friday doubleheader, the Patriots exploded for ten runs through five innings of play to take a 10-1 win over Ozarks in American Southwest Conference play.

After a multi-home run game Thursday, the Patriots continued to hit for power.  Whitney Burt hit a two-run homer to left in the top of the third to put the visitors ahead 6-0.

The Lady Eagles only run of the game came in the fourth inning. Krysten Shavers singled to center for Ozarks and an Annie McDonald base hit allowed her to come home, making the score 9-1. A Jackie Mendez solo homer in the fifth would eventually make it 10-1 in favor of the Patriots.

Tabitha McClane started off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double down the line in left but never got past third as a grounder and two straight strikeouts for the relief pitcher, Vanessa Carrizales, ended the game.

In game two of the doubleheader, Ozarks was shutout 8-0 by Patriots' starting pitcher Alaina Kissinger (13-0). Texas-Tyler got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning and led 2-0 early.

The Lady Eagles' first hit of the second game came in inning number two as Shavers hit one to left center, but she was again stranded by Kissinger.

Texas-Tyler then exploded for three runs in the fourth as a series of RBI singles to center tagged on three runs for the visitors. Kayla Gray and Kristen Millwood both reached base in the bottom of the inning for Ozarks before a McDonald strikeout ended the fourth.

Another three runs came in for the Patriots in the fifth to solidify the sweep and finalize the 8-0 shutout.

McKee (3-16) took the loss for Ozarks. Kissinger received the win.

The Lady Eagles will finish the season with a three game series at Texas-Dallas on April 25 and 26.
