Softball Team Opens Season With Losses

Round Rock, Texas-The Lady Eagles softball team opened the 2015 season with a pair of losses Friday night against Concordia University Texas in American Southwest Conference play.
    
Ozarks (0-2, 0-2 ASC) let a lead slip away in game one as Concordia (2-0, 2-0 ASC) plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 victory. The Lady Tornadoes held a 2-0 advantage after two innings of play, but the Lady Eagles would score a run in the third on Erika Henderson's RBI single to trim the deficit to 2-1. The Lady Eagles then rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Ozarks attempted a double steal and it worked to perfection. Bethany Mason stole second and Shawnee Sorensen stole home to even the score 2-2. Ozarks took the lead when Ryan Gibson crossed the plate on a called balk. However, the lead didn't last long as Concordia rallied to score five runs in the bottom half of the frame to hold a 7-3 lead.
    
Ozarks recorded eight hits in the game, with Mason finishing her first collegiate game 2-for-4. 
    
Hailie Gilbert (0-1) took the loss as the starter.   
    
Concordia rode momentum into game two and took a 10-2 win in five innings.
    
With a 2-0 lead after two complete frames, Concordia added five runs in the third inning to move ahead 7-0. Ozarks scratched across two runs in the top of the third on an RBI walk by Mason and an RBI hit by pitch by Henderson.
    
Ozarks committed seven errors in the game to keep itself from a comeback.
    
Haley McKee (0-1) took the loss in the circle.

Ozarks will finish its series against Concordia tomorrow in a single game starting at 12:00 p.m.
