Hoffsommer’s Three-Run Double Propels Lady Eagles To 4-1 Win

Hoffsommer’s Three-Run Double Propels Lady Eagles To 4-1 Win

Alpine, Texas-Freshman pinch hitter Brooke Hoffsommer recorded a bases-clearing double with two outs in the sixth inning to break open a tight game and propel the Lady Eagles to a 4-1 American Southwest Conference win over Sul Ross State University Friday.

The game one win gave Ozarks' pitcher Hailie Gilbert her third victory of the season. Gilbert threw a four-hit complete game and fought off a fourth inning rally from Sul Ross (1-11, 1-9 ASC). The Lady Lobos scored a run in the fourth behind three hits, but Gilbert struck out the final three batters she faced to keep the score at 1-0. Hoffsommer, meanwhile, produced the game-changing double to push Ozarks (3-7, 3-7 ASC) in front 3-1. Erika Henderson started the comeback with a one-out single and Carlee Shelton followed with a double to put two runners on. Beth Massey then recorded an infield single to load the bases. With two outs, Hoffsommer was inserted as a pinch hitter and ripped a two-bagger to left center to give Ozarks a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The Lady Eagles plated a security run in the seventh on a Henderson RBI single.

Ozarks pounded out nine hits, with Massey going 3-for-4. Gilbert (3-3) struck out ten and only walked one in the win.

In game two, the Lady Eagles let a 6-3 lead slip away in the bottom of the seventh as Sul Ross rallied to score four runs and secure a 7-6 come-from-behind victory. The Lady Lobos recorded five hits in the final frame and took advantage of a costly Ozarks' error. The Lady Eagles rallied for three runs in the  fifth to grab a 4-3 lead. Kaley Coppock, Hannah Oler and Krysten Shavers all recorded RBI in the fifth. Oler would later hit a solo home run in the seventh to put Ozarks in front 6-3. Coppock ended the game with three hits, and Oler had two.

Ozarks will finish the series tomorrow in a single game starting at noon.
