Seven Softball Players Receive All-Conference Honors

Clarksville, Ark.-Seven University of the Ozarks softball players were named All-Conference by the American Southwest Conference, it was announced Monday by ASC Media Relations Director Jimmy Glenn.

Freshman pitcher Hannah Oler made the All-ASC Second Team. Freshmen pitcher Hailie Gilbert made the At-Large All-ASC Second Team. Senior utility player Shawnee Sorensen was named to the At-Large All-ASC Third Team. Freshman second baseman Beth Massey, sophomore designated player Krysten Shavers, freshman outfielder Madison Cluck and freshman outfielder Brooke Hoffsommer were named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.

Oler, a native of Needville, Texas, finished second on the team in innings pitched (80.2), strikeouts (28), games started (9) and complete games (7). The left-handed pitcher posted a 3-8 record and a 6.25 ERA. In a win against Texas Dallas, Oler tossed a complete game, issued just one walk and allowed two earned runs. At the plate, she batted .296 with a team-best four homers. She drove in 12 runs and recorded two triples.
    
Gilbert, a native of Longview, Texas, led the ASC in complete games with 15, while finishing third in innings pitched (131.0). She was second in games started (22) and appearances (25). She ranked seventh in strikeouts (53) and third in wins (9). The left-handed Gilbert led the team in all of the aforementioned categories. She ended the season with a 5.77 ERA. In a complete game win against Sul Ross State, Gilbert fanned 10 while allowing just four hits. At the plate, Gilbert hit .341 with 12 runs.
    
Sorensen, a native of Mountainburg, Ark., played in 19 games and scored a team-high 17 runs. Sorensen finished with a .225 average and drove in five runs. Massey, a native of Cleburne, Texas, started in 37 games and hit .250 with four doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Massey had a three-hit game against Sul Ross State and a four-RBI game against Hardin-Simmons. Shavers posted a team-best 21 RBI, 10 doubles, 35 hits and 51 total bases. Shavers ended the year with a .337 average, fifth-highest on the team. She had a four-hit game against Sul Ross State. She ended the season with nine multiple-hit games and drove in three runs against three different opponents. Cluck, a native of Prairie Grove, Ark., started in 34 games and hit .267 at the plate. She scored eight runs and stole four bases. In the field, she posted a .918 fielding percentage.  She had two hits against Centenary and Texas Dallas. Hoffsommer, a native of Alma, Ark., led the team in batting (.354), while finishing second in runs (16). She had five doubles to go along with 10 RBI. She had seven multiple-hit games and had a pair of three-RBI games.
