Mork Efficient Again, Softball Team Wins Series Against Howard Payne

Clarksville, Ark.-Behind another efficient pitching performance from Abby Mork and timely hitting by Halie Tolich, the Eagles won their three-game series against Howard Payne University Saturday with a 4-2 win.

Under first-year head coach Roland Rodriguez, Ozarks (2-1, 2-1 ASC) won an American Southwest Conference series in the month of February for the first time in program history. Mork (2-0) went seven innings and struck out three and did not allow a run until the fifth frame. Ozarks held a 2-0 lead after Beth Massey and Brooke Hoffsommer had back-to-back RBI hits in the third. Massey's came off a single through the left side of the infield, while Hoffsommer's came on a deep double to center field. With the score tied 2-2 after five, Tolich drove a ball to right center field to score Haleigh Moore and Krysten Shavers, proving to be enough for the Eagles in the sixth. Mork received an outstanding defensive play in the top of the seventh when Moore flew in from her center field position to make a spectacular catch near the left side of the infield. From there, Mork issued a walk, but fought back to force two groundouts to earn her second win in as many days. Mork received another impressive defensive play on the final out as Tolich made a strong throw from her third base position for the final out.

Moore paced the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance. Tolich complimented her day with one run.

Ozarks will travel to Pineville, Louisiana, to face Louisiana College February 19-20.
