Centenary College Sweeps Sunday Softball Series

Shreveport, La.-Centenary College won both games of a double-header against the Eagles Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.

Centenary (12-12) recorded a two-out single in the sixth inning to earn a 7-6 come-from-behind win in game one and then pulled away for a 13-8 victory in game two.

In game one, Ozarks (6-13) plated one run in the first on a Krysten Shavers' RBI single. Centenary responded with four runs in third, but the Eagles narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the fourth. Both runs came off a homer from Hannah Oler, her third of the season. Ozarks took that momentum into the fifth and scored three runs to grab a 6-4 advantage. All three runs came off a Beth Massey home run. But Centenary would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to even the score 6-6. Centenary followed that with its game-winning run in the sixth with two outs.

Four different players – Haleigh Moore, Laken Gray, Massey, and Kayla Gray – had two hits each. Abby Mork (4-8) took the loss as the starter.

In game two, there were a combined 25 hits in the high-scoring affair. Ozarks would again score first to take an early lead only to have Centenary come back to secure the win. In the first, Brooke Hoffsommer had an RBI single and Shavers followed with a sacrifice RBI. Centenary, however, recorded five hits and took advantage of two Ozarks' errors to score six runs in the second. Ozarks did pull within 6-5 in the top of the fourth behind an Emily Miller solo home run and a two-run single by Hoffsommer. It was Miller's first homer of the season. Centenary scored seven runs over the next three innings to lead 13-8.

Hoffsommer finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Miller went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Oler (2-5) took the loss as the starter.
