Softball Team Drops Two Mary Hardin-Baylor

Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Mary Hardin-Baylor held off a ferocious late rally from Ozarks in game one to pick up a 9-7 win and then slugged out 17 hits in a 17-3 game two win Thursday in American Southwest Conference play.

In game one, UMHB (9-14, 8-12 ASC) cruised to a 6-0 lead after four complete innings and then added another run in the top of the fifth to hold a 7-0 lead before Ozarks (6-15, 6-11 ASC) chipped away. In the bottom half of the fifth, Beth Massey drew a bases loaded walk to give Ozarks its first run of the game. Kayla Gray received an RBI on a fielder's choice and Hailey Ostrander followed with a double to drive in Massey. UMHB scored twice in the top of the sixth to gain a 9-3 lead. Ozarks then kept UMHB scoreless in the seventh and the Eagles made things interesting by scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom half of the frame. With two outs, Hailie Tolich reached base on an error, and Brooke Hoffsommer and Ostrander would cross the plate to ignite the late rally. Laken Gray then doubled in two runs to pull Ozarks within 9-7. With the tying run at the plate, UMHB was able to force a groundout to escape with a win.

Gray went a perfect 5-for-5 to lead Ozarks' hit attack. Krysten Shavers had three hits. Abby Mork (4-9) took the loss.

In game two, the UMHB bats came alive scoring twice in the first and five in the second to quickly establish a 7-1 advantage. Haleigh Moore hit a solo home run in the third to make it 7-2, but it wouldn't matter as UMHB exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth to hold a 13-3 lead.

Moore paced Ozarks with two hits. Hannah Oler (2-6) suffered the loss.

Ozarks will finish its series against UMHB tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
