Softball Team Falls At Home Against No. 1 Texas-Tyler

Clarksville, Ark.-No. 1 ranked Texas-Tyler used 20 hits to produce a combined 18 runs and limited the University of the Ozarks to five hits to take a double-header sweep Friday in American Southwest Conference action.

Texas-Tyler (30-2, 22-0 ASC), which won its 25th straight game, won game one 9-2, and then took game two 9-0 in five innings. Ozarks (7-20, 7-16 ASC) put pressure on Patriots All-America pitcher Kelsie Batten by fighting off a number of her 79 pitches. Ozarks handed Batten one earned run on Krysten Shavers' solo home run. Texas-Tyler opened the first inning with a 1-0 lead and then added three more runs in the third. Ozarks got one run back when Laken Gray knocked in Haleigh Moore in the bottom half of the third. Moore reached base on an error. The Patriots plated four runs in the fourth to lead 8-1. Shavers launched a home run over the left field fence to trim the deficit to 9-2 in the sixth. It was Shavers team-leading fourth homer of the season. However, Ozarks was unable to generate any additional runs.

Kayla Gray finished 2-for-3 as Ozarks totaled four hits in the game. Abby Mork (5-11) received the loss as the starter. Mork fanned four and walked only one.

In game two, Texas-Tyler jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and then tacked on three more runs in the third. Ozarks had trouble with Patriot pitcher Alaina Kissinger, who limited the Eagles to one hit over five innings. Brooke Hoffsommer would record the team's only hit in the first.

Peyton Winkfein (0-2) took the loss as the starter.

Ozarks will finish its series against Texas-Tyler tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
