Central Baptist College Escapes With Game Two Win

Clarksville, Ark.-Central Baptist College escaped with a 6-5 game two win to take a double-header sweep against Ozarks Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play.

Central Baptist (26-26) won game one 6-1.

In game two, Ozarks (8-25) trailed 3-0 before scoring twice in the bottom of the third. Brooke Hoffsommer singled to left field and Haleigh Moore blasted her third home run of the season to trim the deficit to 3-2. But Central Baptist scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth to maintain a 6-2 advantage. Ozarks again rallied as Hailey Ostrander doubled to open the bottom of the fifth and then advanced to third on an error. Beth Massey recorded a sacrifice fly to receive an RBI and trim the deficit to 6-3. Kristen Moralez drew a one out walk, and Hannah Oler followed with a two-run homer to bring Ozarks within 6-5. It was Oler's fourth home run of the season. With two outs, Ozarks posted back-to-back singles, but couldn't plate either. Moore started the bottom of the seventh with a walk and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Moore would eventually end up at third, but the Eagles ran out of outs as Central Baptist escaped with a win.

Ozarks had seven hits in the contest, all coming from different players. Oler (3-8) took the loss.

In game one, Central Baptist broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh with five runs to secure a win. Laken Gray homered in the first inning for Ozarks only run of the game. It was Gray first homer of the season. Central Baptist got the run back in the third to even the score 1-1. In the fifth relief pitcher Peyton Winkfein worked her way out of a bases loaded jam to end the threat by forcing an out at home and then inducing a ground out. Trailing 6-1, Ozarks appeared to have hits to centerfield, but Central Baptist centerfielder Alyssa Fontillas made two outstanding catches to keep runners off the bases.

The Eagles were limited to two hits in the loss, both coming from Gray. Winkfein (0-4) took the loss.

Ozarks will host Concordia University Texas April 22-23 to conclude the season. FanFest activities start at 10:00 Saturday.
