Sul Ross State Pushes Across Game-Winning Run In Seventh

Alpine, Texas-Sul Ross State University pushed across the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to edge the University of the Ozarks softball team 2-1 and win the American Southwest Conference series.

Saturday's setback was Ozarks (3-6, 3-6 ASC) third loss of the season by one run. The Eagles would score first in the game, with Kayla Gray singling in Sydney Key in the second inning. Key reached base on a double to center field. Gray and Hannah Oler were advanced in scoring position on Hannah Ward's sacrifice bunt. However, Sul Ross State (5-9, 3-6 ASC) was able to end the rally with a strikeout and a groundout. The Lobos evened the game on an infield single in the bottom half of the frame. The contest went scoreless until the seventh. The Eagles did have a pair of runners in the scoring position in the fourth, but came up empty.

Each team had seven hits. Key and Gray had two hits. Oler (2-4) took the loss.

The Eagles will host Hardin-Simmons University March 3-4.
