Hardin-Simmons Softball Team Takes Friday Double-Header

Clarksville, Ark.-Hardin-Simmons University produced timely hits to earn a 5-2 game one win and then got a one-hitter from pitcher Chloe Brignac to take a 8-0 win en route to a double-header sweep against the University of the Ozarks Friday.

In game one, Ozarks (3-8, 3-8 ASC) would leave 13 runners on base, while Hardin-Simmons (4-9, 3-8 ASC) generated key hits in the fourth inning. The Cowgirls struck first in the first inning to score on a sacrifice fly. The Eagles responded with a run in the third when Krysten Shavers had an RBI to knock in Brooke Hoffsommer. With one out and the bases again loaded, Ozarks was unable to push across any more runs. In the fourth, the Cowgirls homered and then recorded back-to-back hits with runners on to produce RBI and lead 4-1. Hardin-Simmons plated another run in the fifth, but it appeared the Eagles would have a big sixth inning. Hannah Ward started off with a single, Hailey Ostrander drew a walk and Haley Hardy was hit by a pitch. Hardin-Simmons forced a pop out, but Shavers delivered a sacrifice RBI to trim the deficit to 5-2. However, the Cowgirls forced a fly out to end the rally. Ozarks again loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't produce any runs.

Ozarks tallied seven hits in the contest, while Hardin-Simmons recorded eight.

Hardin-Simmons used four pitchers in the game. Hannah Oler (2-5) took the loss for Ozarks.

In game two, Ozarks had trouble with Brignac, who tossed a one-hitter. Brignac had a no-hitter going until Sydney Key broke it up in the fifth inning. The game was scoreless until Hardin-Simmons plated four runs in the fourth. The Cowgirls added two more in the fifth and sixth innings as the Eagles struggled defensively. Katie Ventress (1-3) took the loss for Ozarks.

Ozarks will finish its American Southwest Conference series against Hardin-Simmons Saturday at noon.
