Hardin-Simmons Softball Team Completes Sweep

Clarksville, Ark.-Hardin-Simmons University held off a seventh inning rally to edge the University of the Ozarks 4-3 Saturday in game three of its American Southwest Conference series.

Hardin-Simmons (5-9, 4-8 ASC) led the entire way, but the Eagles (3-9, 3-9 ASC) produced a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and could have had more. The Cowgirls scored one run in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Ozarks generated a run in the fifth on a Krysten Shavers hit. Ozarks would hold Hardin-Simmons scoreless in the top of the seventh. With one out, catcher Laken Gray threw out a runner on an attempted steal for the second out. Hannah Oler then forced a groundout for the third out. Hardin-Simmons' defense didn't help itself as Ozarks took advantage of three errors in the bottom of the seventh. Brooke Hoffsommer led off with a single and Gray followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. The Cowgirls then committed an error to allow Hoffsommer to cross the plate. Shavers reached base on another error, and Gray scored to trim the deficit to 4-3. The Cowgirls committed another error, but no runs were able to score. With a runner in scoring position on Ozarks' next two batters, Hardin-Simmons recorded back-to-back outs to spoil the comeback.

Hoffsommer, Gray and Sydney Key each had two hits.

Oler (2-6) took the loss.
