Softball Team Drops Double-Header Against Belhaven

Clinton, Miss.-The University of the Ozarks softball team scored first but Belhaven University stormed back as the Blazers took a 7-3 win Friday night in game one of its American Southwest Conference series against the Eagles in Clinton, Mississippi.
     
In the top of the second, Hannah Oler blasted her first home run of the season to give Ozarks (3-12, 3-12 ASC) a 1-0 advantage. The Blazers (6-11, 4-10 ASC) responded with three runs in the bottom of the third on just one hit. The Eagles put runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but came up empty. Meanwhile, the Blazers plated a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and another in the sixth. Ozarks rallied in the top of the seventh to score twice. The Eagles had the bases loaded with two outs, and got a clutch two-run double from Sydney Key. However, Belhaven was able to get the final out to end the comeback.

Brooke Hoffsommer had two hits for Ozarks. Oler (2-7) received the loss.

Game two of the double-header went Belhaven's way as it won 11-4. The Blazers held a 2-0 lead at the end of two innings, but exploded for seven runs in fourth. Ozarks scored twice in the fifth and sixth, but it was too late. Kaitlyn David and Hailey Ostrander posted RBI in the fifth and Krysten Shavers and David had RBI in the sixth.

The Eagles equaled Belhaven in hits (10) in game two.

Katie Ventress (1-4) took the loss.

Ozarks will finish its series against Belhaven Saturday with a single game starting at 12:00 p.m.
