Softball Team Drops Game One Against LeTourneau

Clarksville, Ark.-LeTourneau University opened the game with three runs and then put on runs late in the contest en route to a 8-2 American Southwest Conference win Friday over the Eagles.

LeTourneau (10-13, 5-11 ASC) wouldn't score again until the fifth inning, but Ozarks (5-15, 3-13 ASC) wouldn't score until the sixth. With LeTourneau holding a 6-0 lead, the Eagles plated two runs in the sixth on a Katie Ventress deep home run over the left field fence. The Eagles did mount pressure on LeTourneau in the fifth as Brooklyn Keeling came within inches of a home run as she hit a shot deep to right center field that bounced off the fence. Sydney Key followed with a single and advanced to second base on an error. With one out and two runners in scoring position, LeTourneau pitcher Faith Genoway forced a pop out. With two outs, Genoway painted the corner to record a called third strike to end the rally.

Ozarks wasn't without outstanding defensive plays. In the top of the second, Cheyanna Miller made a fantastic catch to rob Courtney Matulis of a hit in left field. In the fourth, Rebecca Willems matched the play with a diving catch from her right field position to rob Bailey Woodard of a hit.

LeTourneau recorded ten hits, while Ozarks posted four. Hannah Oler (3-9) took the loss.

The Eagles will finish the series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at 12:00 p.m.
