Softball Team Earns Saturday Split With LeTourneau

Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team split its twin bill with LeTourneau University Saturday in American Southwest Conference play.

The Eagles opened the day with a 7-3 win, but then took a 10-0 setback in five innings in game two. In game one, the Eagles' offense came alive as it tallied runs in the first, second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Ozarks (6-16, 4-14 ASC) opened with three runs in the bottom of the first. Katie Ventress doubled in Brooke Hoffsommer, and Sydney Key singled in Ventress. The final score came when Cheyanna Miller reached base on an error, and Krysten Shavers, who also had a hit, crossed the plate. In the second, Brooklyn Keeling blasted a solo home run to push the advantage to 4-1. Shavers posted an RBI in the fourth on a single down the left field line. Ventress received some strong defense behind her in the circle, including a dead-eye throw from Hoffsommer to get the out on Ashlin Roach, who was attempting to advance to third base on a fly out to center field.

The Eagles totaled nine hits in the contest, with Hoffsommer, Ventress and Shavers each recording two hits apiece. Ventress (2-5) went the distance to receive the win. She had six strikeouts and issued only one walk.
